A have mixed a few trance cds with the help of my computer.
I was wondering, legally speaking, do i have the right to sell them, or is that a copyright violation?

Satan (eek!)

ok dude you're seriously high.. hehe j/k

yes it's illegal to sell your CDs for profit if you dont have the rights to the tracks you mixed, but that's the bottom line. I dont know all the intricate little details on this...

Unless you are an established DJ in your area, it is usually a bad idea to *sell* your promo material. If you want to get your name out give away your discs. I mean, it costs you less than $.50 to make a CD so why not just give them away, right?

Technically it is illegal to sell music you don't have copyright on. For demo purposes you can write on your material "Promotional Material - Not For Sale". And also be sure to indicate that the mix is a "Studio Mix" (as opposed to live / turntable mix) somewhere on the liner ... can get you in trouble if you use it to get booked.

peace
