to start your song with an ozone on the master..i have some trance presets that i used sometimes on my master..it's a lot easier for me to start with that and edit the sounds accordingly then to have nothing on the master and try to get the same sound with out anything on the master..and if i use it after then i have to tweak all the sounds accordingly which is impossible sometimes..

i mean as far as multiband stereo imaging/reverb and exciter goes i don't thin it really make a difference if you do it first or last..

i know you should always try to send your song to someone else to master but using this method i've got some good results..since i'm not a nerd when it gets to multiband dynamics, i start with my preset and then tweak it after..

any thoughts?

Curiously I was wondering this yesterday... but I still think that is better for any further process trying to do all the work in your DAW without the mastering module turned on all the whole time.

In my experience when I think that something sounds pretty cool and I want to recycle such sound in another proyect... here we have 2 issues.

1. If the rendered sample was mastered once... then if I import it again with the same mastering settings as my sample... it could sounds pretty bad... I mean... EQ + EQ = crappy sound.

2. Anyway if I use the sample and for any reason I must to use an another kind of parameters in my mastering setup... Is pretty frustrating when you got something cool and you want to take it and put it in another setup and it doesn't sounds as the original.

This is in case if you want to reuse samples or whatever.

But I really think that is a pretty cool way to figure out how to tweak your proyect to get the right sound as if it were actually mastered...

As well as has said by our mates up here... if its sound just so right... leave it as you got it. =)

Everything is relative accordenly of what you are planning to do in my humble opinion.

Cheers!

yeh you make a good point there..

I have the hardest time learning to mix and master trance..I could mix and master any other style of music no problem (using the text book method) but trance is a lot different from the rest. So far this is the only method that made my production sound decent..or as I like to call it the 'typical trance sound'.

Nice sample. I used to start a track with Waves C4/L2 on it (master as I go). I don't do this anymore, though. Like everyone is saying, so long as it sounds good.

i always have a compressor/eq/limiter (in this order) on my output but turn it on every now and then to see how the track responds to compression/eq changes and limiting.
