Things to do in Mtl, 12/13 Jan only?

Any volunteers wish to share info on places to go & see during a short stay in Montreal this upcoming weekend? It doesn't have to be trance/club-related, even though that's certainly welcome (I'm on TranceAddict after all) ;-) . :-)

Thanks very much...

Unfortunately, these two days will be rare days where Montreal's nightlife has nothing to offer, you didnt pick good days.

Things to do in Montreal ? Well get unto some tourism websites.

What I would do ?

Contemporary art museum
Montreal Fine Arts museum: There is an awesome exhibition right now displaying very very rare pieces by Montreal's most reclusive collectors. Probably the last chance to ever see masterpieces by Picasso, Pisarro, Monet, Manet Andy Warhol, Anselm Kiefer, etc !

Get down to the old port/old montreal

Visit Mont Royal

Shopping on St Denis street between Sherbrooke and Laurier

Shopping on Ste Catherine Street between St Denis and...well very far in the West.

What are your interests ? That would help us help you.

Hey Malek, how do we get to Mount Royal? We keep following the signs and always end up facing Olympic Stadium when we wanna face downtown core.

I should've known that any time in January that is after New Year's is dead anywhere. I didn't exactly pick those particular days though. It's more like they were given to me.

As for what I'm into. Too much nerd/geek/techy stuff to never get a unique experience where I am. I'm into art but it's definitely not my passion. Shopping - as said above, I do enough of it here or online to justify doing it on holiday/trip (unless it is HK or Japan).

Food - trying new stuff out is important. I would like recommendations on local dishes you think nobody should leave that area without eating.

Culture - are there various ethnic communities/neighbourhoods around to lull away an afternoon in & see various interesting things from other parts of the globe? I'm aware that there is a Chinatown ('Chinese Quarters', it's called?) there, but anything else?

Food: We dont really have speciality local dishes, except for Poutine. The best Poutine is at a restaurant called La Banquise, on Rachel street near Christophe-Colomb.

Also, dont miss out on Schwarts, one of the best smoked meat in the world

There is a world reknown bagel shop on St Viateur

Except for that, Montreal is one of the hottest sports in the world for fine cuisine. If you are a gourmet, be sure to look at a restaurant guide.

If you have money, I personnally recommend Pied de cochon or Toqué!

Visit O'Thym, a nice restaurant owned by a MTLTA on this very forum !

Culture: Montreal is a very, very, very ethnical city. Chinatown is small, but cool, its called Quartier chinois

Oh big question here: is it safe to walk around all night across the city? I know I will not have anywhere to stay during that time, being that it truly was a last-minute thing.

no sleep for 48 hours??

Montreal is a very safe city and no one will hassle except a few beggars and flyer boys

I walk with expensive equipment very often at night and was never bothered.
