so i'm interested in knowing how some of you get your music. Do you listen to sets and get playlist...then buy the tracks? I'm just wondering as how you define your sound...its a little different than just going over to teh record store and listening to some tracks now. Where are your sources of getting your music?

- Surf "new releases" on download stores
- Visit physical record stores
- Recommendations from friends
- Blogs
- Radio (shit all here in Melbourne)
- Clubs...ask the DJ, "what was that?"
- Of tracks I like, search for collaborators/similar artists on discogs (usually I find stuff by accident whilst searching for something else).

The only method I don't use is downloading tunes from sets...I basically never listen to sets unless I know they will be really special.

I go to online stores and preview different tracks. Most of them are honestly crap, but once you wade through them you get the good stuff.

I used to listen to sets and look for tracklists just to get some names, then I'd run searches for those names and looked for samples of tracks on beatport. After a while I became familiar enough with artists and labels that I could just go to beatport and I knew more or less where to start looking.

i'll ususally search for new tracks by my favorite artists...then move on to labels...usually its easier imo to find tracks of a certain type by labels than artists themselves

I physically go to vinyl shops when I'm in Germany. I also buy on line from vinyl shops in Europe.

I mostly use web sites like beatport and look for artists and labels that have other songs I like. The quality difference between legal tracks and pirates makes the $1.50 per song worth it.

dig dig dig. relying on track lists and favorite artists is not enough. you'll become another dj playing the same tracks everyone else has canned to death. take your time and look. and don't just stick to one genre as a lot of tracks are mislabeled and you may miss out on them.

i get pretty much all my music from beatport. i am too lazy for piracy. i like just being able to browse and get.
