lack of talent

I was just thinking why there has been a lack of top ranked dj's coming to New York? Anybody else notice this? For the past few months and the foreseeable future, only pvd is scheduled. I noticed this after Crobar closed, but even Pacha sucks lately. Could it be that top ranked dj's are avoiding new york?

i think there is just a lack of great djs in general. There are great DJs don't get me wrong, but doesn't seem enough to go around... of the great ones, at least. Some day, I hope to be a mediocre DJ at best. I'll get better from there, maybe.

And by "get better" I mean I will drink alot and not get better.

I think things slow until the conference, then will pick back up again.

Not j/k cuz it's true. Alot of the artists are going to the west coast as opposed to here. Even if we did get them to NYC, there's always a lack of a crowd.

There really ARE some amazing DJ's that have come through NYC recently or are coming in the near future...you just need to look harder--- I suggest places like Bar 13, Studio B, APT, Moomia and Cielo. Some great talent there!

EDIT: T-3....2....1.... til this thread turns into a "Just because they are ranked high doesn't mean they are the most talented DJ" thread

Are you freakin kidding me? I can understand, NYC is obviously taking a little break in the next month or so, but if you are talking about "top ranked" DJ's (ie: the super-popular one's that make the DJ lists) in the recent past, then you have had your head up your ass for like 8 months. I have been to more parties in the past few months with top ranked DJ's in NYC than I have ever been in my life. I have literally taken ONE weekend off since August and quite literally I am thankful for the break. When cities like Toronto (who gets huge names at big venues) are making comments about all the talent coming to NYC on a weekly basis (small names included!!), you know you are doing well.

Besides, its all about rounds. We all know very damn well that big names like ferry, armin, Pvd, etc etc will all be back in March or so and the whole madness will start all over again.

Edit: agreed. pacha sucks. The big names have been going to Webster Hall lately

sander van doorn, cosmic gate, christopher lawrence, andy moor, eddie halliwell, john o'callahan, simon patterson, sean tyas, kyau & albert and armin van buuren, ferry corsten, markus schulz, rank 1 and paul van dyk are pretty big names in the business if you ask me and i've seen them all since about september...slightly confused here.

i'm glad for the break because i'm partied out right now, i'm good until next month for marcus.

To his defense, Trump didn't even really look like a bum.

Some top ranked DJs that have spun here in the 4th quarter of '07..

Adam Beyer
Armin Van Buuren
Chris Liebing
Paul Van Dyk
Erol Alkan
Claude Von Stroke
Cosmic Gate
Matthew Dear
Trentm0ller
Guy Gerber
Underworld

I'm sure ppl can add to that list.

Some who've been MIA in late '07..

Sven Vath
Sasha
John Digweed
Richie Hawtin (??)
Matthew Jonson

It'd be nice if a new, decent large venue would surface soon..
