Fearsome - [Epic Trance] (would love some critique)

hi boys!

been working alot on this track the last couple of days, I've just gotten to the break atm. but would loove to hear some critique on the first part. (about 4 mins long)

I'm not so sure about the genre but i think this is an epic-style piece.

Download

Cheers

Great job m8.

I can easily imagine this filling the dancefloor inside a club.

'Classic' trance-type tune right here.

Well, here goes....

0.00 - 0.25, Sounds ok, but the little melody you got going in the back I just cant seem to follow very well, might just be me, the strings here dont do an awful lot for me (the sound of), just a little boring.

0.25 - 0.55, Liking the bass you have here and the way you are also playing with the filter, also like the melody and the way you are kind of playing with bringing bits in and out.

0.55 - 1.22, Still like the melody and the way you are building upto something nice, got the potential to really start moving along in a sec. Might be nice just to add a quiet little shaker or some kind of percussion here just to spice things up a little (nothing much) (NB: At 1.14 / 1.15 where the kick stops your bass plays one note too many).

1.22, In all honesty it's a little dissapointing. Its built up to making you think all hell is gonna let loose but it doesnt. If it was me, I would of kept the melody you had from 0.55 - 1.22 had some clap which will kind of keep the pace going a little, and fiddle with the filter on the bass a little like you did at the beginning, should keep things a bit more interesting.

2.04, The new sound you bring in comes in very loud at first for a very brief period (maybe you set the filter / volume automation a little (1/16th?) too late?)

2.17, May be nice just to intoduce some quite 303 or something playing with the filter a bit here, it would keep me more interested in it.

2.17 - 3.13, This is ok, but I just feel that there are 1 or 2 too many key changes which makes it feel a tad awkward, I think if it had 1 or 2 key changes less, it may flow a little easier.

3.13 - end, I quite like the little melody you have here, it may be nice to intoduce this in to the main part or as a counter melody at 2.46 to keep things spiced up. I also think it may sound nice here at the end if the melody velocity controlled the filter so that as you are filtering out, you can hit some of the keys slightly harder so you get the odd note that "pops" out as such, just to keep things nice!

Summary:

My favourite bit is 0.25 - 1.22 as it just flows nicely and theres some nice playing about with the bass filter / melody, builds up the tension & excitment, but doesnt quite get going as much as you are expecting it to. I think with some of the things I said it could be nicer - thats my honest opinion anyway!

Nice lead sound from start. Like the automation in the first section. A lot of your patches are pretty cool. Doesn't seem to sustain energy after the first build. Maybe add a clap here also? Aye I like this. Would sound good with vocals too. Main lead seems to overpower a little later on.

Good stuff, I'd like to hear the finished version.

Cheers

Fearsome

Hello mate

Sounds like its going well

Nice strong uplifting sounds/pads and a good trancey melody

Possibly could do with a few closed hats/percussion and eventually a snare to break it up abit.

Also theres alot of high frequencies which is really good but maybe balance it with some more low frequency sounds to fill it up.

Good job - look forward to hearing the track when finished

reDefine: Thanks mate! I'm struggling to get the eqing right in the highs, it's really hard to remove the white noise and still be able to keep a crisp sound..
