Going to NAMM, any questions?

[For those who don't know, NAMM is a music tradeshow. Almost every manufacturer of music hardware or software will be there answering questions about their products]

So, I'm going to the Winter NAMM on two days, the 18th and 19th. I know that most interesting things will show up around the internet (CDM and such) but I thought I'd post and see if anyone wanted me to check out anything specific and report back.

So, if you have a question about something you'd like me to ask, or keep an eye out for something in particular, I'll do my best to report back.

I'm definately going to ask about track folders in Live... or beat someone over the head with a Moog at the Ableton booth for not implementing them.

I'm going to try to hit on the chick from Shiny Toy Guns since they're going to be at the Roland booth, rawr.

Greetings from your neighbor just to the north! I'm sure the news will be out by then, but I'm dying to know what this new Spectrasonics product is going to be. They're making it sound like it's going to be something huge.

Shoot, and I'm just transitioning to Seattle! Family is still down there, so it's still my 'hometown'. Would've been fun to collab.

Spectrasonics, noted.

If Image-Line are at NAMM, ask them if they intend on developing any of the following in FL Studio 8:

Proper dual/quad core support
Real sidechaining
Automatic plugin delay compensation

According to the directory, Image Line will be there.

Echo, PM me with details/background, as I've never used FL Studio. What is the current situation on each of those 3 things, so that I can ask effectively?

At the moment, FL will only run VST instruments & a few other things on other cores. All FX and timestretching etc. are run on one core. Hence, multicore performance isn't good.

FL has no way of doing real side chaining, only using the peak controller which is not the same thing.

FL has no automatic plugin delay compensation, therefore it is impractical to use any high quality plugins that have a delay (you have to offset it manually).

I get the impression none of these will be done any time soon, because they don't want to fix all the fundamental coding problems in FL. I just want to hear what they say anyway. Actually, don't ask them if they "intend" on developing such things... Ask them WHEN they will develop them. No one has ever gotten a straight answer out of them, maybe you will succeed!

Oooh pretty please ask the Ableton peeps if any of the following will be implemented within this next century. Or if they are gonna ignore the wishlist on their forum and just implement new stuff people don't really need:
quote:
- folder tracks
- bezier curves (heck any curves)
- absolute input for them nasty automation dots (they were considering this for Live 6)
- snap to grid automation. although there is a small workaround for this, it would be nicer to have a snap for individual points
- not entirely important, but dualscreen support would be ace

Don't forget to have some serious fun over there and to take some tasty pics of some gear and that Shiny Toy Guns chick

Thanks!

i had to give back my tickets because i'm with family this year (although i'd arguably feel more at home at NAMM). If Adam Audio is there can you find out if the P series is going to be updated at all in the next 6 mos?

thx dude!

NAMM is a tradeshow where manufacturers set up booths and the guests are salespeople and store owners. Like SEMA, but with music gear and software.

DJ, do you work for a retailer or manufacturer?
