What is a "manly" personality or mentality? What is a feminine one?

Wizniz said something in another thread that interested me. :

These questions are for anyone who wants to answer, not just for wizniz:

What do you consider a "manly" personality or mentality? And is it unattractive when you see it in a woman?

And the other side of it: What do you consider a "feminine" personality or mentality?

For me, I find masculine physical features (facial hair, narrow hips, square jaw, etc.) unattractive in women, but I don't really know what people mean when they say that a woman has a "manly" personality.

When men say that they find a "manly personality" unattractive in a woman, I often suspect that they mean either:

(a) the woman is too independent or assertive for their liking, and she won't pretend to be less intelligent or less competent than she actually is in order to attract men. Or...

(b) the woman is domineering or combative, traits that are generally unattractive in either gender, not just in women.

to me, a manly personality would be one that is "abrasive", yet more relaxed. if that makes any sense.

i say abrasive , because men tend to get pissed off about things easier. but i also say relaxed because we tend to shrug things off more easy too. awesome paradox , isn't it?

feminine personalities tend to be wishy washy i think. not all the time, but more along the lines of "well, i dunno, what do you think?" type of scenario. whereas a masculine one is "this is what we're doin, baby".

feminine personalities also tend to be more directed towards someone whereas masculine tend to be directed towards something.

hard to explain, really.

usually a turnoff tho, for me, when a woman is abrasive, short, and to the point.

on the other hand, however, it gets REALLY annoying when they can't make up their fucking minds about the simplest shit sometimes.

hmm well some masculine traits (non-physical) might be:
1. desire to be in control
2. a take it or leave it approach to relationships
3. not "cute" (hard to describe but you should know what i mean)
4. more neurotic and sometimes more violent/angry
5. dressing more conservatively

some people like these kinds of girls... i dont that much because you have to either go %1000 percent male on her or you have to be her man-bitch to make it work out...
either is too much work for it to be natural for me.

You're assuming a relationship can't work out if there isn't a male archetype and a female archetype, which isn't always the case.

I'm not sure if that fits what you're talking about here, because I tend not to think of personality traits in terms of being male or female, but I tend to get along far more with women who are very independant and assertive. I just don't feel a need to be "in control" of a relatonship.

So to answer the original question; I do find this type of personality very attractive.

For me:

Feminine is 'I want you to tell me I'm pretty, while having an expression I would perceive as genuine.'

Masculine is 'I want you to reassure me that I'm a man, while having an expression that I would perceive as genuine. What you actually think is not important, as long as you don't have headaches.'

I don't believe in such thing.

Sure, you can claim the female brain is different from its male counterpart because of hormones and whatnot, but I think the cultural influences are so strong that most (if not all) guesses we take are already deeply biased by our own world-view.
