Speed Camera's?

Has anyone here been busted for speeding by a speed camera or heard of anyone that has?

Im not a speed freak but lets say i pushed the limits of my car on an EMPTY highway for a few seconds, nothing too ridiculous though.

So wondering what my chances are of getting a ticket in the mail.

We don't have them (automated photo-radar) in Ontario.

I dunno, I dunno. There's pro's and con's to most laws. While I disagree with the law on the basis that 150 in 100 is a bit low, there are lots of situations where cops are allowed to "confiscate" property without a conviction.

As an example:
* I pick up a baseball bat at the store, walk up to a dude and smash his knees.
* Cops arrest me and certainly confiscate the bat (it's evidence).
* You of course notice that I'm not convicted of anything yet at that point in time - that little thing we call court hasn't happened yet

This situation is no different. You can think of a vehicle that is moving too fast as a weapon. Indeed, if you're doing 90 in a school zone with a limit of 40, you are a stupid moron, your car is a potential deadly weapon, and should be confiscated.

This point may be valid if in fact they were using your car as evidence or the car is obviously not road worthy. However under this law you usually get your car back after a week. It is essentially punishment without trial nor conviction.

BTW if OPP Commissioner Hitler,..er i mean Fantino gets his way anyone who gets into a single car crash in bad weather will be automatically charged with careless driving. He claims its about safety. My take on it is more cash revenue and an excuse to use statistics to hire more cops. Laws are rarely about public safety, thats just a side benefit.

you should be charged with careless driving. If you were driving properly for the conditions then you wouldn't have crashed your car.....any excuse is just that...an excuse for your careless driving.

you really believe that? So EVERYTIME someone gets into an accident because of weather its careless driving? Isnt it called an ACCIDENT for a reason???

Ive been driving ultra slow before and still done an involuntary half doughnut by way of hitting an ice patch. Ill never forget driving on the 401 from windsor. One minute it was rain and suddenly the weather flash froze and people were sliding into the guide rail right in front of me! Luckily i saw it coming from a mile away due to the dozens of panicked breaking cars in front of me. But dont tell me those people were careless driving either!!

There are SOME idiots that do cause their own misery but i would think that having a smashed car and higher insurance rates would be punishment enough. However, i guess the police and government want in on the monetary action as well. Because lets face reality, this is not about enforcement. Laws like these rarely are. It about revenue. Dont kid yourself.

If it were actually about safety and law enforcement then they would be charged with careless driving BEFORE the accident even occurred. But that would COST money to enforce! Charging after the fact is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel isnt it?

BTW York Region just widened Bathurst St near Aurora from a hilly and narrow two lane road to a graded and wide 4 lane road with a centre turn lane. Youd think that on a safer road the speed limit would remain the same or actually increase. But i guess York wants to make money so the speed limit on the SAFER highway has gone from 80 km/h to 70 Km/h and even 60 in some spots. Note to York Region... PLEASE STOP MAKING OUR HIGHWAYS SAFER!!
