What is the album which you think did set trends after its release? Like one which changed the course of making music and the way people looked at it.. Haan?
I think .... 1. Chicane - Behind the Sun, 2. Chicane - Far from maddening crowds .... definately changed the course of way people looked at 'EDM'!
After this two album releases people no longer looked at EDM as an acid trippy hardcore drug music... but EDM could be soft, emotional, soothing and relaxing too!

it started psytrance (NO NOT GOA TRANCE) seriously.
X-Dream-Radio (The psytrance sound of the time)
Dimension 5-Transdimentional+Pleaidians IFO(started the new school goa sound)
Also your title says innovative... a more in depth description says trend setting. Work out which one.
For innovative I'd say Classical Mushroom-Infected mushroom

If you're thinking about trance, Cosmic Baby did all that back in 1992 with Stellar Supreme, and Salt Tank in 1994 with ST3 and Laguna Calorado. And if you're talking about whole EDM, let's just say Leftfield released Leftism 2 years prior to Far From The Maddening Crowds.

Maybe not the absolutely most innovative, but a huge influence in my future interest in EDM...
