Eleven in a row. Eleven mixes of pure, deep, progressive quality. Outstanding, mate! This set opens with an almost foreboding mood, but then with Purple Silence and Reflections you move us into this spacey, atmospheric, and even contemplative mood for a while. Rainbow Colours is aptly named, for this tracks seems to bring with it a sunny, afternoon warmth. The mix takes a new direction with Source of Time. I’m not sure how to describe this track, really, but I enjoyed it very much. I cannot recall having heard anything quite like it before. The brief xylophone sound in the breakdown reminded me a little of Riders on the Storm by The Doors, a massive track in its own right. Beyond Reality picks up the emotion with a lush breakdown. A perfect breakbeat number here. Nice mix into Abandon, which explodes to life with that bass line! Love the lead melody in this track as well! Couple of nice breakdowns to go along with all that bass and melody, too. Painter’s unique melodies and percussion work well here to really bring the mix alive as in enters its last quarter or so. The percussion has this almost “island” feel to it, reminiscent of steel drums or something. Love the mix into Jaded, mate. Well done! Jaded’s been a favorite of mine since I first heard it, and it fits well into your set here. I float away on that breakdown. The mix out of Jaded into Lonely Days is also just top notch mixing. Again, well done. Your final mix is nailed, too, and the computerized vocals are great in Pubic Bear. They remind me of Pink Floyd’s “The Division Bell” album. Silly name, but what the hell.
From a technical point of view, your mixing is always right on, but this set really stands out for me, personally. Smooth, top notch mixing from start to finish. This is some of your best mixing, phrasing, and EQing to date. I wish my skills were even half as sharpened. Just…wow.
As a side note, I watched Milkdrop 1.04 on Winamp as I listened to the majority of this, and it synced up amazingly well.
