Dave Seaman: Summary and recommendations

From what little I've read, it seems that Dave Seaman, particularly his Therapy Sessions compilations, would be a good direction to head for someone developing a taste for progressive house/trance. I've not listented to any of his mixes, so could someone with some insight summarize his style for me and make some recommendations? I have an ear for progressive trance, but I'm starting to appreciate more progressive house, so with that in mind is there a specific mixcomp you'd recommend? Cheers as always for the insight, guys.

Insight more into Dave Seaman or progressive house in general? Is progressive house still around?

Hm, Balance compilations? Luke Fair's one might be good start.

Well, both would be nice, but if you can think of something from Dave that would appeal to someone who likes progressive/melodic focused music that would be great! It is entirely possible that I've misread and Dave doesn't spin what I am looking for, but that's why I'm calling on people with more knowledge.

I'd recommend Renaissance:The Masters Series 7 mixed by Dave.

From what I've seen of him live, he tends to play a lot of Audio Therapy releases. So if you're looking for a gauge on what he plays I would recommend his Audio Therapy mixes, don't remember how many he has though. As for the genre itself, I'd probably be pretty useless...to me "progressive house" is still the likes of Lexicon Ave. and Creamer & K

Definitely look at Audio Therapy releases on beatport.

Seaman's generally been hit or miss with me, but his Audio Therapy releases are definitely a step in the right direction to foster your interests.

They typically include many of the major Prog acts and productions of the year, and the 'guest' mix portion of the comp is always an added bonus. That said, I own AT volumes 2 through 4, and I would definitely recommend checking out volume 2. Volume 3 was somewhat disappointing on both discs, and although I'm only about 3/4 of the way through disc 1 on volume 4, it already sounds outstanding (though it's so far more Tech-Housish than the Prog. you're probably looking for). Although this isn't my strongest recommendation, you may want to consider picking up his Renaissance: Masters mix comp if you can find a used copy (and he's also got another one coming out this year, it seems).

With the exception of his Melbourne installment, I would steer clear of his GU releases. Finally, check out some of his "Across Borders" releases, as they consist of the various tracks that are signed to his label according to the region they're from (I'm sure you can find a cheap, used copy of this).

I would say the complete opposite, his melbourne one is probably the weakest of the 3. Horses for courses i guess, but buenos aires and cape town are IMHO fucking awesome, melbourne is meh.
