Have any of you used professional studios for recording?

I'm considering opening a professional recording studio this year. It'd be a big investment, and I know the primary clientele are other music genres - recording bands, groups, etc. But was wondering if any of you had ever paid to use professional recording studios? And if so, what would you be looking for in a studio? I imagine vocal recordings would come in handy, some mastering as well, but also know a lot of us have most of what we need to produce electronic music right at home with plugins... just curious on your thoughts of whether or not there is any clientele in electronic music for a professional studio?

do you like losing money???

if you answered yes, then GO FOR IT!!!

in short, you wouldnt be able to make a profit by being a 'nobody' recording studio.

why?

1) musicians are broke muther ******s so they cant afford shit.

2) you can record yourself in ur bedroom with an mbox.

3) depending on your area, there is probably a recording studio around that has better gear than you.

4) musicians are broke muther ******s, they dont wana pay you.

questions to consider: who are your competitors, are you plugged into the scene, do you have contacts, do you have a rep, do you nice gear...all that shit. anyway, have fun.

I used to work in a music studio and from experience I can tell you the main clientel will be bands and groups. Obviously they need to pay to hire a studio far more than your electronic producer. Bands need to be able to record drums, with overhead mics and so forth. They also need a vocal booth to record vocals and as playing together this will need several takes. So as you can see their need is greater and the only reason I can see an electronic producer paying to hire a studio would be for vocals and mastering.

So you will either need knowledge in recording bands, setting up mics, channeling all the instruments and so on, or you will need to pay a sound engineer that knows what he is doing.

Hope this helps.
