Hi All,
Here's something I've been working on for a while now.
This track is at a stage where I really have to go forth and finish it, but I've been lazing for far too long.

Anyways, to my ears, the kickdrum sounds too sharp and definitely could be 'warmer'. It's off a sample (two actually, one triggers the other). I've applied eq and compression to the stereo group, reduced the length of the tail (second sample) to clear up space, but something still needs adjustment.

Would appreciate any advice to resolve this issue.

Appreciate any comments about the rest of the track as well.

It sounds to me like it could be a little louder relative to the other sounds. Have you tried playing with the levels?

About the "sharpness": if EQ isn't working, you might need to just find another sample.

Yes, I've played around with the levels.
I'm considering using another sample as template.

However, I haven't really gotten down to EQ'ing it properly, I'll give it another shot and boost the levels a little.

Except the loudness, how does it sound to you otherwise?

The kick? It sounds like it's too short, which is why it's not getting the proper impact. That's my impression, anyway.

Right, I'd shortened the length of the tail quite a bit, so I'll look into that as well.
Does the bass sound alright?

The bass sounds fine to me.

Apply an M-Class EQ to your kick.
Take one of the parametric bands and adjust the Q to a high value, so the curve will be fairly narrow.
Raise the gain to full. Now, sweep the frequency while listening to the kick until you hear the "sharp" part of the kick become amplified. Finally adjust the gain downwards to a negative value. Adjust the Q if necessary.

This is a great equalizing technique when you want to tame harsh or sharp sounds.
