Download muh set! DaveT- Live at Ten15 - 02/16/08
I am creating this thread for those outside SF or those who simply haven't read the Local Love thread and saw the link there...and since I'm trying to get as much constructive criticism as possible, making this thread so people know it exists...
Please give your honest opinion. In the end, I might love my set (which I don't overall...it could be a bit better after giving it a good listen), but it's a matter of what other people think as well....so please, honest opinions. I want to, with experience, be able to play sets that I will be happy with and I know the crowd will dig.
I started off the set trying something diff for Ten15...it didn't go so well, lol, (I knew it was a risk), so I had to make the change to prog/prog-trance/techy into trance a bit different than I wanted to and sooner. You will notice a house remix of welsh morphology slapped in there...doing that was more of a personal want and more for fun as I wanted to hear the transition between the two on a good soundsystem...you prob won't think it fits well there, but screw you! It was my b-day set!
The recording is tad glitchy here and there (nothing serious though) and I even caught a channel going out for a few secs when it didn't happen live. I dunno why. I used brand new cables going in that I barely tested at home and think it might have been faulty cables. Still need to see.
There's also a couple spots in the set where the track basically skips...almost like a CD.
This happened when playin live. I was thinking that it was caused by Ableton somehow since last week I caught two other I bought off of Beatport playing TOTALLY messed up (not just skipping, much worse) in Ableton (had to convert them to wav then import), but considering it never happened before and I've played the tracks a million times since Saturday night just without any issues, I think it might be because this MacBook Pro I am temporarely using might have a 5400rpm (my old laptop has a 7200rpm) and ended up having issues with playing back the tracks while recording the set in Audacity in the background. I had to borrow a laptop from work and setup Ableton on it on Friday because my HP laptop started going on the fritz and simply isn't stable. A 5400rpm should be able to playback and record an mp3 fine, technically, but it's the only thing I can think of. Anyone else have a clue as to what happened? No, none of the tracks I played came from some torrent...so it's not some incomplete torrent. I'm not lame like that. All the tracks I played were nicely bought on places online, most from Beatport. I will do more testing myself with setting up a couple hours of tracks in Ableton and record at the same time and see if it happens again, and then play the same tracks over again w/o recording in the background.
OK, I always appened way too many notes to things I make avail...so I'll stop now, lol.
