Sometimes the combination of delays and reverbs and percussions tend to do that.

Let the music work you, don’t work the music, is what I always say..

Sometimes if you listen to the song long enough you could almost hear it telling you what its missing..

Yea sometimes I get that. I notice it the most, when I got some seriously heavy ping-pong delay going with the primary and secondary leads. It is truly one of the most satisfying experiences one can have from music production other than having your penis sing to you--that tops it all...

BTW, I think the word is pseudo-serendipity. Misapprehension sounds cool, but I don't think it's appropriate in this context.

It's happened to me also but I think it's actually the music triggering subconscious memories of other songs that sound similar.

When ever i use delay + gate + phazer + 16/32th notes, i hear all kinds of stuff, i esp like it when i manage to create a 'resonace rollover' which is when the resonace gets to a point where its almost a solid lead byitself and it starts to gate, then backtracks a few MS each time it hits, so much that it actually backtracks a whole half note. So that it sounds like the resonace of the sound, hits, before the actual sound. And it phases also. Cool effect for 604 Trance...

That and a bunch of other effects that i have discovered which were unitential, as for meldoies, never discovered any new or 'sub' melodies before.

I think someone makes an ointment or topical cream for that.

I find myself experimenting with high resonance stuff too. It can be quite melodic to focus on some crazy overtones of a chord. Cool thing is to play a sequence then modulate the resonance peak slowly, instead of just morphing the sound, it morphs the apparent notes. Kinda fun really.

That's some pretty cool mind buzzes there!


But yeah, I know what you are talking about. This is especially true with "repetition" factor when you mind is getting numb of your production and therefore trying to toy with the music rythmically or melodically in your subconscience. I've made a few melodies that way through these subtle mutations.

Yeah, using reverb and those sorts of effects often results in those sort of hallucinatory melodies, I get it all the time. I thinks its a combination of getting a resonance or two and then your subconcious picks up on it and works with it.

Interesting topic.

I've had this experience as well, and sometimes I'll key in the melody that I've been "hearing."

This is actually an ability I'm trying to develop: being able to listen to a track I'm working on and "hear" notes that will fit well with whatever I already have, rather than just trying out things by hand as the track runs.

mainly because: anyone that replies, is an honest to god trance producer.

I've somewhat harnessed the creativity billowing from these "implied" tones. (as i call them) i.e. they are not present, but something in the old noggin is "implying" they should be there.

My trick, explained as best i can, is memorizing interval, in its only physical form - Frequency or Hz. I break away from a formula (key, chord progression) and think in terms of whatfrequency, however still remaining interval, would rock the loop. (i might be able to elaborate later, not sure, or i might just be crazy)

Melodies, Melodic Interval, all boil down to formulas youve heard before. Go up and down the scale and get those tones stuck in your head, and watch the subconscious wizardry.
