going by msy prices...

DS3P $163
Q6600 $299
2gb adata 667 ram $50 ** not corsair
320g seagate $102
512mb gigabyte 9600 GT $209
pioneer 215bk sata dvdrw $37
antec sonata III $175

= 1035 ? (if i looked up/done calc all correctly)

cpu is fine.. mobo, do you really need the P version over regular DS3? ...
I'm out of the loop with video cards, can't comment there
I think overpriced cases are O_o, but anyways, might suit your needs

also I'd put money into buying a decent HSF for the CPU and overclock the shit out of it. if not overclocking, go amd.

edit: 1) could always extend video card budget and get the top of the line ati 3870 for ~$270 instead
2) espec don't see much point in getting that case if you're not gonna oc ..

yeah, dont get that video card. its not good enough for gaming and its overkill for just surfing the web.

from the supcom forums.

8800GT
are the three worthwhile purchases, with the 8800 being the most expensive and the most powerful.

id get the 8800GT for $235ish. everything else looks the goods (as far as i know, im a year behind the tech).

no they're not. it's a choice, let nvidia undeservedly (at this point in time) eliminate the competition, or support the under dog.
I would say the same with Intel/AMD, but credit where credit is due, you can't beat an overclocked intel cpu.
and besides, is 500w really enough for a 8800? the ati use less power, and aren't as hot. bonus points for the same shit. hell you even copy/pasted from supcom and they also recommended it along with the 8800. can't go wrong with either (if you have a mother of a psu), but atleast there's some food for thought.

i dont believe in supporting the "under dog" unless their product outperforms. the ATI cards recommended are only recommended against the 9600, the 8800 GTs still poo all over them, at least according to tomshardware and anandtech.

quote:

The 8800 GT offers incredible Geforce 8800 GTX-class performance at almost half the price. It beats the Radeon 3870 by a notable margin, but it does tend to be a bit more expensive. That said, if you have $230 to spend on a graphics card, you couldn't do better than a nice 8800 GT.

for the tiny price difference, i dont know why you wouldnt go with the GT.
