Music for a local bar...

I got my first real gig lined up at a local hookah bar and I need some suggestions. I normally play prog house, but after thinking things over I figured that it's not going to work at the bar. On busy nights - this bar is filled with college kids that listen to top40. The owner decided to try to do a "euro" night on a slow day and see how that would work and if it would attract some new clientele. That's where I come in. I specifically asked him what genre he wanted me to play and he told me that anything but trance. So naturally, I figured that electro/house is what I'm going for. Here's a playlist that I made so far. Let me know what you guys thing and please make some suggestions:

(
1. Eric Prydz - Proper Education
2. Deadmau5 - Contact
3. Adam K & Soha - Twilight
4. Adam K & Soha - Long distance
5. Suicide Sports Club - last ghost in town (redanka mix)
6. Boom Jinx - Remember september
7. Jay Lumen - perpetual drifting
8. Alex Gaudino - destination calabria
9. Chris Lake - changes
10. Lange - songless
11. Air Hustlers - flowers from heaven
12. Alex Kunnari - lifter
13. Ercola and Heikki L - deep at night
14. Fonzarelli - moonlight party
15. David Guetta - the world is mine
16. Cosmic Gate - guess who
17. Sound De-Zign - happiness
18. Darude - tell me
19. Probspot - stalker (fine taste remix)
20. John Acquiaviva - zombie
21. Tocadisco - Morumbi
22. Artificial Funk - never alone
23. Jussi Polet - Positive (supermodels from paris remix)
24. Terry Lynn - Kingstonlogic (pacifist remix)
25. Voodoo and Serano - Vulnerable

SEX!

Get the original version of Calabria instead. Every pop, cheesy, commercial club DJ and their mother spins the dreadful Gaudino "remake".

Original version of Calabria was not produced by Alex Gaudino, it was produced by a Danish DJ/Producer called Rune.

Good luck, you're probably going to playing to a tough crowd. I like the tracklist that you have laid out for the most part, and the electro house should get the booty's shakin'.

Sounds like a chill sorta place, I would have a lot of straight up fun/deep house lined up.

Nothing too inaccessible.

Thanks for the input! I'm not overly concerned because I'll be spinning on a slow night (tuesday). It will be more like a test night to see how people react to this kind of music. If all goes well, I'll be DJing there every friday. The owner wants to try this because quite a few people have pointed out that currently the music there is shit (rap/hip hop) and it doesn't really fit into the atmosphere of that particular bar.

downtempo and deep house would fit a place like that. hookah bar and electro house just don't go together imo.

Well it's fortunate the bar management is willing to try some new music. Lots of those guys are total idiots about music and seem to get in a rut and won't let the DJs change anything.

Interesting about that Calabria track. I looked on BeatPort for the Rune versions and no luck, but they have some by Enur which is the same producer apparently.

Good luck with the night! Spinning in bar can be a little tough on the ego sometimes. Just remember that even if people aren't that visibly into in (no one actually dancing, not too many people bobbing their heads, etc), there's still the possibility that many are still really enjoying the background music.

In a sense, the best bar music sometimes is just that--purely in the background. If your tracks really do set the right vibe with the bar, everything--the lighting, the decor, the people, the drinks, and the music--should just be kinda seemless. Good luck!

I actually do something very similar! On Wednesday nights I spin @ a sports lounge/bar on Miami Beach. Im on from 11:30-5:00 am. The crowd there is NOT by any means all about EDM, however I have changed that I pretty much throw down anything...I switch it up from tribal, electro, tech and a liiiiiittle bit of prog. Since it's a bar, people dont really go out there to "DANCE," however all I can tell you is this... If you see that people are coming in, staying there, buying drinks and people are talking to eachother and having a good time, ur doing your job. If you see the place clear out little by little, switch up the music. Eventually theres a point in the night where people are drunk enough and occasionally you will have people dancing. Oh and watch out for people that will constantly go up 2 you asking for requests lol...thats inevitable. So I purchased a shirt on Cafepress.com that says "I dont do requests" lol. Good luck brotha!

Do you think I should get some top40 tunes? I really hate that stuff though.
