Get the original version of Calabria instead. Every pop, cheesy, commercial club DJ and their mother spins the dreadful Gaudino "remake". |
actually, this is the original. It's not the crap version that you hear on the radio.

Sounds like a chill sorta place, I would have a lot of straight up fun/deep house lined up.
Nothing too inaccessible.

Thanks for the input! I'm not overly concerned because I'll be spinning on a slow night (tuesday). It will be more like a test night to see how people react to this kind of music. If all goes well, I'll be DJing there every friday. The owner wants to try this because quite a few people have pointed out that currently the music there is shit (rap/hip hop) and it doesn't really fit into the atmosphere of that particular bar.

Good luck with the night! Spinning in bar can be a little tough on the ego sometimes. Just remember that even if people aren't that visibly into in (no one actually dancing, not too many people bobbing their heads, etc), there's still the possibility that many are still really enjoying the background music.
In a sense, the best bar music sometimes is just that--purely in the background. If your tracks really do set the right vibe with the bar, everything--the lighting, the decor, the people, the drinks, and the music--should just be kinda seemless. Good luck!

I actually do something very similar! On Wednesday nights I spin @ a sports lounge/bar on Miami Beach. Im on from 11:30-5:00 am. The crowd there is NOT by any means all about EDM, however I have changed that I pretty much throw down anything...I switch it up from tribal, electro, tech and a liiiiiittle bit of prog. Since it's a bar, people dont really go out there to "DANCE," however all I can tell you is this... If you see that people are coming in, staying there, buying drinks and people are talking to eachother and having a good time, ur doing your job. If you see the place clear out little by little, switch up the music. Eventually theres a point in the night where people are drunk enough and occasionally you will have people dancing. Oh and watch out for people that will constantly go up 2 you asking for requests lol...thats inevitable. So I purchased a shirt on Cafepress.com that says "I dont do requests" lol. Good luck brotha!
