Motorcycle Insurance

Ok so the summer is just around the corner and I have been looking at getting my M1 and buying a motorcycle. Does anybody know the rules governing the Insurance??

Can you get insurance for seasonal riding, and which company has the best rates?

Any riders on here with some advice would be greatly appriciated.

Also what is a good starting bike? I'll kill myself on crotch rocket!!! Also as a new rider I don't want to get mauled by heavy insurce by having a sport bike.

anything under 600cc is safe but you'll look funny on it cause you're like 6'3" and 250 lbs.

I know some people who don't get insurance because paying the fine is cheaper than having insurance for 10 months, so try not to get caught within 10 months.

honda has a good 125 cc bike that is complete with insurance... great starter bike.. like 4k in total

try a goldwing,, kinda pricey

both my buddies bought crotch rockets 2 years ago,, one had a bad accident and crashed into a metal pole (his arm is fucked, but not for good) .. the other friend just got alot of speeding tix (too much on insurance) they both wanna sell their bikes

my friend is selling his sv650s for 7500.. not bad considering it includes equipment .. the bike cost him like 14k all together w/equipment

good luck finding a bike!

IIRC you can no longer get seasonal insurance on a bike in Ontario. That was abolished, what about 3 years ago now...

As for the bike, stay under 600cc as mentioned above and you're good.

FYI, the majority of your premium for a motorcycle is going to be liability. You may wish to ask your insurer to remove the liability insurance (and collision if you have it) during the months that you don't ride. Alternatively, if you don't carry passengers on your bike you might want to ask for the basic liability limits of $200,000 rather then the standard of $1,000,000. I would never recommend this for a car; however, if you are involved in an accident with a motorcycle it is less likely that you are going to injure another party severly enough to cause damages in excess of $200,000... NOTE, I do not say it's not possible to cause such injuries: I recommend that you consider the risk and your ability to self insure for anything beyond $200,000.
