Hello. I just upgraded from CDJ800s to CDJ1000s, and the one thing I miss is the auto beat loop function for chopping the loop up instantly. I know the 1000 has the edit start and end points of the loop - but how do I do the same thing as on the 800? And am I missing something, or is there no quick return function either? I can press the cue button to get back to the set cue point, but I much prefer being able to set to quick return for scratching a sample. If anyone can help me, I'd be very happy.

The auto beat loops on the CDJ800 are hardly perfect anyway... I always found it was easier to punch in and out manually.

I'm finding the same thing with the 800, I keep setting autoloops which don't set properly leading to mixes going out of time quickly. Any way to avoid this or is it just practise on setting the loop on the peak of the first beat?

The auto-loops on the 800's, as well as those in software like torq/serato/traktor... are pretty good... BUT: Trying to use them in a mix is very hard. The loop would have to be SPOT ON for the two tracks to stay in sync. And everytime the loop repeats, that little tiny bit it's off happens again, and again...

Just practice riding the jog a little bit for each loop repeat to keep things synced up.

And no, there's nothing automatic on the 1000's. Pretty lame. The CDJ-400 has a new beat jump thingy which looks great too. Hopefully on the next model.

are the loops on traktor scratch not spot on?

They are pretty good, but not 100% perfect. How could they be? It's just an algorithm (like a BPM counter) that is making a best "guess" as to where the beats are. If it's off by even a few ms, you're going to notice.

i was hoping that the algorithm would be so good that it'd be spot on. i guess not then.
seems like the only thing that can loop spot on is ableton and i have no desire to use it for djing.

What?

Certain tracks will have problems more than others... also, if you beatgrid your tracks in Traktor you should have no issues, things should be as tight as ableton (combined with the occasional use of the sync feature).

i dunno if i'm really ready to do that as i would like to play with "real dj equipment" to get the more hands on feel rather than click away on a laptop. i'm only thinking about getting traktor scratch for easy sorting and looping pretty much. also beatgridding 3000 (or more) tunes would take quite a while i'd think.
