music collectives
So, I'm doing preliminary research on my architectural thesis and what I am leaning towards right now is a essentially a collective housing block and series of exhibition spaces for transient artist-types in Berlin. (specifically friedrichshain, berlin) right now i'm just code-naming it "future collective".
a good deal of this project will revolve around the production of music. I have a lot of influence in the design from the design of monastic compounds, and I am transferring the basic concept of living of in a monastic cell to a lifestyle of intense individual artistic production in a communal setting.
the compound will include one or two major 'ritual spaces' which will be hybrid galleries/nightclubs/event spaces, as well as other public spaces. i want to reinvent the record store for this project as well and turn it into a highly social environment and also include highly privatized listening spaces and places for meditation - a bunch of crazy shit which I haven't made any sense of yet
the idea is that the compound would bring together a ton of people from all over the world from various artistic disciplines (though an emphasis on music), so that they can may produce artwork in a very intense, interiorized, contemplative way, like the way monks are brought together in monasteries to produce prayer and theoretically to effect change in the world beyond through their seclusion..
the idea is that the collective would have a common idendity (obviously) in their production, sort of like BASIC CHANNEL, UNDERGROUND RESISTANCE, DETROIT TECHNO MILITIA, KUNSTHAUS TACHELES etc
thus,
my question and basis for the creation of this thread is:
what (true) music collectives (not by name alone) do you know of besides what I already listed?
I am specifically interested in those which have a real-world physical, collective studio, like UR.
thanks for your help
