The rhythm of Berlin has fascinated generations: film maker Walther Ruttmann was inspired by the pulsating life in the city in the roaring twenties to make one of the most important documentaries of the silent film era. In 2008, three musicians, who have each in their own way influenced the rhythm of Berlin’s nightlife in the past few years, will attempt to give the pulse of the 1927 film a new sound with rhythms, melodies and tones from today. Ricardo Villalobos is one of today’s foremost jetztmusik artists, and his characteristic style as a DJ and producer has been a decisive contribution to Berlin’s nightlife. With Moritz von Oswald and Max Loderbauer at his side, the project now counts two further pioneers who have left an indelible mark on the evolution of electronic music with countless projects.
Together, these three protagonists of today’s nightlife in Berlin will be breathing new life into the film with their interpretation of the rhythm of the city. And that in highly fitting surroundings for this prestigious event: Mannheim’s Atlantis Cinema. |
