Yes, Tony (or Jack) mastered a couple of my tracks a few years ago. My mixing skills weren't as good back then (so he was never going to be able to turn my tracks into masterpieces), but I wasn't that enthusiastic about the results. He had a certain vision of what the tracks required, took them in a certain direction, which wasn't really what I was after. I sat with him during the process (as well as his next session, a dj mix CD). He works at incredibly loud levels just about the whole time. So in terms of making sure the bass region is solid, hits you properly, all that, he has that well covered. But I like my high end definition, and his mastering made my mixes much duller (even though the low end was improved).
So make sure you know what you're after - I asked him beforehand if I should bring reference CDs, he discouraged that. It seems he has a vision of what things should sound like - hopefully it's the same as your vision! (If so, then yes - he's very capable, he has great gear and he'll do a great job)
As always, take full responsibility for your mixes. Make them as good as you possibly can, try to get them to a stage where a mastering engineer will do nothing to them, or possibly replicate what you've done to your mix (in terms of master eq/ compression/ limiting/ whatever), using expensive/ quality tools. But know this - spending massive amounts on mastering isn't going to make a so-so mix sound great.

It's a balance. Ideally, you'd get someone who has the absolute best gear and also does the best job on your tracks. That's not always the case. I've been to a number of absolutely beautiful mastering studios, with crazily expensive gear, but my current mastering engineer uses mainly Waves processors. I'll keep looking around now and then, but currently he's the engineer who does the best job, to my ears.
