Cooledit
hey ali92, I've been using Cooledit for the past year to mix and it's pretty easy. The first thing you want to get is the full version of your songs (mp3's). Try getting 192+. You can definitely tell the sound difference mixing 128 and 192 so be carfeful. Next, convert all the mp3's to wav format. Next, set the tempo for every song at the same speed. You can do this by using the stretch function. Basically, count 32 beats of every song and matched them together. (Ex. if song #1 32 beat is 13.932 sec and and song #2 is 14.234 sec, stretch each to the tempo you like such as 13.9 sec for all the songs. this way all the songs are beat matching. you don't need to set every 32beat at a time, Just set the first 32beat then undo it using the edit fuction. Cooledit will now remember the ratio of the stretch. Now click on full and stretch the full song using the ratio. check couple of the 32beats to see if your they are at the same lenght such as 13.9 sec.)
Now you just need to mix paste your playlist. It will take you a while to figure out how much to fade in and out. I basically use the same fade in format between each song. (Ex. I fade in the first 2 32beats from 12% to 50% using the fade in button. The next 32beats from 50% to 75% and next 32beat from 75% to 100%. At the same time I'm fading out the 1st song. I also use the equalizer to cut off the bass in the beginning of the fade in. Basically, I imagine how a Dj with turntables would be transitioning.)
Recently, I bought 2 numark cd players and a pioneer mixer and gave up the whole cooledit thing. The cooledit did help me since I already knew how much to come in during my transitions. Now I just need to do it real time. All I needed to learn is beat matching which was a bitch at first.
I tried using other programs but they weren't very user friendly and some need two sound card. If your on a tight budget try Cooledit but be warned that you'll probably won't get much respect. Its hard for even digital dj's like myself to get any respect spinning cd's. I hope this helped... good luck
