Gabriel & Dresden finished...

EDIT:

So it's official:

quote:
hello friends and fans

some of you may have noticed that i have not checked into myspace at all this year. it has been quite a few troubling months for me and frankly i just didn’t know what to say here, but now i can talk freely and participate in the community and so please accept this blog as my grand hello.

yes, the rumor is true. Gabriel & Dresden and parted ways for the time being. Over the past year, Josh and i have been moving apart as artists and we decided rather than milk it and be moderately happy together that we separate and examine ourselves as individual artists for a while. Our final date was the beatport pool party in miami on march 30th. For those who were there, i want to thank each and every one of you for showing Josh and I the love and support that you did. A lot of the set was songs that we have individually been working on interspersed with a few fan favorites. I will remember that hour and 15 minutes forever because i certainly felt the love with all the hands in the air and the well-wishes.

After WMC i went into the hospital to have shoulder surgery. I had a torn rotator cuff and after years of constant dislocations to my shoulder, i wanted to get that out of the way so that i can be 100% when i hit the road in mid-may as a solo artist.

I have also been very busy in the studio with my own music. I made a track with my good friend chris cox back in february called "Hole Wide" - it samples a relatively obscure song from the 80’s band tears for fears "advice for the young at heart" and it’s the kind of feel-good house i have always wanted to make but never did. Some of you may have caught it on pete tong’s essential selection show yesterday. if you didn’t check out the bbc.co.uk/radio1 site and have a listen to the show. he played it right before the essential new tune.

it will take a few more weeks for me to recover fully from my operation and then i will announce my tour plans.

and for the 1000’s of people who have reuested to be my friend, please be patient, i will add all of you. godspeed

Dave Dresden's blog.

Can't say I'm terribly sad to see them part ways, as I've found their collaboration work to have steadily gone down that long, lonesome, uninteresting road.

Although Gabriel seemed to be more involved with official and long-standing projects, Dresden, as far as I could tell, was consistently churning out little unofficial releases he would make available for free downloads to anyone who was interested.

Of course, I'm not saying they're necessarily any good, but he seemed to be pretty prolific on the side.

Confused

I won't miss them. Both their sets and the majority of their productions have been a snoozefest IMO.

It pains me to say this, but +1. They had some great productions, and some not so great one that still struck that chord for me, but unfortunately those have become pretty few as of late.

Not only did their sets seem to have they been largely go-nowhere snoozefests, but (and I'm sorry if this has been brought up to death in the past), they tend to consist predominantly of their own productions. It's almost as if their idea of throwing in variety into their sets is to drop a track recorded under one of their aliases. I have no problem with tastefully integrating your tracks into your sets for promotional purposes, but I've never seen tracklistings so consistently flooded with original productions as I've seen with G&D, and really appear as anything but tasteful.

I may be wrong, but do remixes count as original productions? Cause I didn't know they actually had too many original releases.

Yeah, they did have a lot of remixes and re-edits, but it's the essential point that you can't seem to look up a G&D tracklisting without seeing their names on 75 percent of the tracks, either before or after the track title.

Take a look at this tracklisting (I think it may have been one of their NYC gigs):

01. Depeche Mode - Here Is The House (Gabriel & Dresden Bootleg)
02. Beber & Tamra - Travelling On (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)
03. Coldplay - White Shadows (Gabriel & Dresden Bootleg)
04. Gabriel & Dresden - Arcadia
05. Booka Shade - Mandarine Girl
06. Rachael Starr - Till There Was You (Gabriel & Dresden Fluffo Mix)
07. Ozgur Can - Changed (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)
08. Moby - Running Again (Steve Angello Remix)
09. Gabriel & Dresden - Portobello
10. Markus Schulz feat Departure - Without You Near
11. Armin Van Buuren feat Gabriel & Dresden - Zocalo
12. Above & Beyond - No One On Earth (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)
13. Eye Wall - Bad Deal (Remy & Roland Klinkenberg Remix)
14. Motorcycle - My Blue Heart (Gabriel & Dresden Chocolate Popart Dub)
15. Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes (Gabriel & Dresden Sweeping Strings Mix)
16. Deep Dish - Say Hello (Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso Remix)
17. Perasma - Swing To Harmony (Gabriel & Dresden Club Mix)
18. Andy Moor - Halcyon
19. Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (Gabriel & Dresden Chillout Mix)
20. Andain - Beautiful Things (Gabriel & Dresden Unplugged Mix)
21. ID
22. Bigtop - Sub
23. Josh Gabriel - Alive
24. Kay D Smith & Marc Tall pres. Passive Resistance - Praiseworthy Tunes (Hoipolloi Mix)
25. Dido - Don't Leave Home (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)
26. Motorcycle - Around You (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)
27. Nicole Spoonberg - Resurection (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)

In retrospect, G&D are by no means the only people guilty of this, and I'm sure the overwhelming majority people in the crowd found it to be a blast, but seriously...what a joke.

They were one of the acts that got me into trance in the first place, but lately they're stuff has been a shambles. So sorry to see them go, but I guess it was all over for me anyway after "Tracking Treasure Down".
