Canada & Visible Minorities

Canada too accommodating to minorities, poll says

Most Canadians believe their country is too accommodating when it comes to the country's "visible minorities," according to a survey released Thursday.

The Strategic Counsel poll for The Globe and Mail and CTV, found that a hefty 61 percent of those asked thought Canada does too much for members of the visible or non-white minorities.

In mostly French-speaking Quebec province the figure soars to 72 percent, the survey found.

The study also showed a sharp difference between people's opinions on the question in urban and rural settings. While 55 percent of those in big cities thought concessions to minorities were too numerous, the percentage soars to 71 percent in communities with fewer than 30,000 people.

Members of Canada's "visible minorities" in 2006 topped five million or just over 16 percent of the population.

Almost 9 out of 10 people surveyed (88 percent) said their community was welcoming to these minorities, the survey found.

What a flawed study. I dont think people care about "visible" or not. Whether it's a european "white" person or an asian or whomever, canadians are sick of having people arrive in this country only to be told by the newcomers that they need to change this and that. I think adding "visible" to this study was designed to provoke a negative reaction to the outcome.

Canada is a country that speaks english and french that is not christian but was founded with christian traditions. The head of state is the queen and our flag is the maple leaf. If people cant accept this they are free to leave.

At least 80% of the injury claims I have on my desk are for people who have been in Canada less then five years and don't work. They just want to collect enough money so they can ship over another brother or sister.

WOW. This statistic is alarming.

Question: What do people 'claim' if they do not work ???

It's one thing to be accepting and accommodating, it's another to change our nation completely to make others feel like they are at home. Conform to our nation's ways or go home. Many might not take this the right way. All I am saying is if a hard hat is required for your safety, I think it would be in your best interest to protect your head. I don't think a religious belief should trump that. The fact that we even contemplate the idea is absurd. Wear the damn head protection. Just one example and my 2 cents. Maybe they don't want to wear the protection because they want to collect some kind of disability... I don't know.

For automobile claims you can claim one of the following weekly benefits.

a) Income Replacement Benefit - the policy will pay upto 80% of your net income or $400.00 per week.

b) Caregiver Benefit - the policy will pay $250.00 for the first child under 16 or over 16 with a disability and $50.00 for every additional kid. This is assuming you are unable to care for the little brats (although any legal rep. will claim this regardless of whether you can or not and then its upto the insurance company to prove they no longer require this assistance)

c) Non-earner Benefit - if you don't have kids and are not working then after 26 weeks you can claim non-earner benefit. This allows you to claim $185.00 per week if you are substantially unable to perform your normal activities of life.

Then on top of those benefits there are the following

a) Housekeeping - so if you cannot clean your house anymore you can claim $100.00 per week for someone else to clean your house....even if that someone else lives in the house you can still claim this. Once again any legal rep. will claim this whether you actually did any housekeeping prior to the accident. Even if you still can do it they will claim it until the insurance company proves you can't do the housekeeping.

b) Attendant Care - so if you can't wipe your own ass after an accident you can hire someone to do this for you. This is a harder one to get away with but there are good doctors out there that will say you can't do anything yourself.
