Dimitri from Paris was one of the first DJs I got into back in the day. I really got into house in 1999 and from there on in, it's been my passion.
I used to be a hardcore rocker back in the day, and it's funny now, because I am so anti popular music and so into house. I couldn't tell you who the popular bands are or any of their songs.
Dimitri is marketed pretty well. He's got the PlayBoy branding behind him, with his 2000 cd A Night at the PlayBoy Mansion and 2002's After the PlayBoy Mansion. Now he has 2008's Return to the PlayBoy Mansion to promote.
I also haven't missed a Dimitri show in Toronto in the past 6 years, but last night, it's clear that I have grown out of the Dimitri loving.
All I could think about was the beating Mark Knight was going to show London next week. I've heard all of Dimitri's stuff before. Don't get me wrong, I still love the disco house and disco (I really should have been born in the 70's) but I am a point now where I like to go to a club and ID tracks and be blown away by stuff I don't know. That's not happening these days with Dimitri.
The crowd was pretty good and the place was pretty busy...that's what you get when you book Dimitri.
I will still have some amazing memories at Dimitri parties...Winter Music Conference 2004...Montreal on my birthday in 2002...iDream 2002 with Dimitri in the Orange Room and Victor Calderone main room at Guvernment...but we'll see what happens with him and I.
