Help Setting Up Studio

ok so ive been eyeing this thing from M Audio for a few days ( FireWire 410 4-In/10-Out FireWire Mobile Recording Interface ). Im running Ableton Live with an M audio Midi controller connected USB which I will connect to the soundcard for better latency. Ive also got 2 Pioneer CDj 800s connected to an Ecler Nuo 2 Mixer. Now for the hard part! Basically I want to be able to record my mixing from my CDjs but each on its own seperate audio track inside my recording software. I sa that the soundcard I want comes with those digital inputs and my CDjs have those Digital outs! I was happy untill I realised that I was forgetting about the fact that my CDjs are connected to a mixer so I can MIX(duh). So I have no choice but to go from my mixer out to my soundcard in which puts everything on 1 audio track! sht! Is there anyway around this? Is what im saying complete bullshit? Someone help me please before I drop 500$ on a soundcard!

PS if anyone reccomends a better soundcard for what I want to do please do! (midi keyboard, cdjs, producing with ableton on a PC, maybe a few hardware effect units later on)

just buy 4 RCA splitters?
The you can hook up 1 pair to the mixer and the other pair to your soundcard, maybe with the necessary adapters for your soundcard connectors?

Im not sure the reason why you want to mix but record the track separately instead of just using Ableton to dj with but +1 for Storytellers method.

Well mixing with ableton is boring Imo. Even Cdjs I find boring! The point of being able to record each CDJ on a seperate audio track is so I can make corrections If I mess up a mix! Imagine mixing for 25 minutes perfectly and your last mix your off 1 beat. Wouldnt it be nice to be able to fix that up in a program!

I hate when people call things cheating.

1. He is doing it for his enjoyment.
2. Its an art, it doesn't matter how he gets the end product, as long as it isn't just stolen from someone else.

Just re-record the last mix then splice it onto the end instead of the botched mix using Soundforge/Ableton/whatever.

The way you want to do it will not work with a normal DJ mixer...

Very nice idea I will try that. I guess it just takes some practice and Eqing to get it sounding right.

Here's another trick right from the 'screw your listeners store' around the corner, to fix a mix when u f*cked it up.

Record you mix in a program like Adobe Audition or something like that. Say for instance, that you screw up a mix, just re-record the mix the 'right' way. And than just cut out the gap between the bad and the good mix. If you do this with some accurancy, nobody will here you cheated ... Did this a couple of times myself.

hey if matt bellamy (muse) can throw a note off infront of a live audience, sasha and digweed can miss a beat and double for a second so can you... it only gives the feeling that a human being is mixing and not a machine... sometime when i listen to some bands live i stop and wonder if its them or a playback... in the end its them but you get that "ultra human" feeling which is quite frightening...
