Yea i seems sometimes the Dj is just putting vocals in, in hopes to attract a more mainstream audience when they really don't add anything to the track and actually make it sound bad. Just look at the success of Rapture and you see why they might do it. I am all for some quality vocals (Jan Johnston, Kylie Monigue, ect.) as long as the cheese factor is kept to mild chedder.

Vocal tracks are wonderful, when the vocals are the main part of the song.
Regular tracks with good complementary vocals are good as well.

But tracks with vocals thrown in are BAD.

IMO...

YES: Riva ft. Dannii Minogue - Who Do You Love Now (Stringer) ... vomit, this is an awful attempt

NO: Windsider - Hidden Flight ... I really like this

I have a feeling that Insigma - Open Your Eyes (Vocal Remix) might turn out to be crap also.

** EDIT - Just heard Tiesto ft. Suzanne Palmer - 643 (My Love's On Fire) (Oliver Klein Vocal Mix) on Armin's set on ID-T ... Awful vocals over a good track.

I think a lot of the time, when an absolutely gorgeous choon breaks, and you feel like you're in another world-- all of a sudden, like scratched record, you hear some woman shrieking some cheesy lines like "there's a fire in your heart"-- it just doesn't measure up to the emotion and the energy of the tune, it brings it down!

occasionaly, like in James Holden - one For You, the vocals really add on to the emotion--but they have to be used carefully. I personally don't like actual words in a trance choon, because I always felt that trance should tell you what to feel through the sound, not through words, like classical music. But vocals used like another instrument are tops.

cheers
Ilina

i love vocals in most of the tracks like Silverblue - Step Back (A2 Vocal Mix) or a lot more tracks... it gives the track another point of view than the dub...
Agnelli and Nelson - Everyday: i don't like the dub remixes but i do like the vocals remixes
sometimes thevocals are really not neccesary and they just ruin the track... but it's not like that most of the time

i think people might not like vocals because as of late, it is the only thing that really differentiates a lot of the trance being produced from the shit you hear on Top 40

take away the vocals, take away the mainstream

i don't agree with this though
i like vocals when they don't overpower the song
the only exception to this rule are tracks like matt darey's beautiful or tiesto's remix of silence, maybe a couple others

i love vocals when they add that element of emotion to a track
ie. atlantis vs avatar - fiji, aria - dido (arminmix), lovechild -liberta, etc.

Vocals often make up for what would otherwise be a boring tune. The true trance artists are able to make good music without using vocals to cover up their lack of compositional skills.

Which is why I cant stand most instrumental versions of songs, cause the vocals were composed as a part of the song to give an extra element to it, a full and complete feeling if you will.

Agreed about Dannii Minogue, she is a horrid singer, dunno how that pop garbage of a vocalist got into trance.

CJ Stone is pretty good with vocals, I cant stand their instrumental stuff much. Usually trance vocalists are pretty good, although I didn't like De/Vision w Green Court, but then again I cant stand anything by De/Vision anyways. Soft beautiful female vocals ala Angelic or CJ Stone are nice, or edgy stuff like VNV Nation.
