A double whammy! A one-two punch! A dynamic duo! Are you ready to see two legends in one night at our biggest production yet for just $10-15? On May 30th we bring you THUMP! at Kava Lounge like only 8:39 Productions can do it - two rooms of rockin tunes, headliners John Kelley and Jon Bishop, some of your favorite local talent, visuals, art, lasers, and massive NEXO sound. This won't just be a regular Kava Lounge event - we're taking over the building next door and doing it up proper.
Known as one of the original Moontribe DJ's with classic and influential sets at Full Moon Gatherings in the mid-90's, John Kelley's first mix on the Moonshine label "Funkydesertbreaks" is still known as one of the all-time great breakbeat mixes. Having toured the world with The Crystal Method, Orbital, Carl Cox, and Frankie Bones amongst others, Kelley launched label Ball of Waxx in 2002 in order to concentrate on his own original production and the release of his debut artist album "A Night in the Park." Considered one of North America's foremost breaks DJ's for over a decade, you don't want to miss this performance by a true pioneer of the West Coast sound. Representing San Diego on a massive scale since 1990, Jon Bishop has not only been a local favorite but a worldwide all-star. Recently a resident of one of England's Sundissential, Bishop has played alongside just about all of the world's heavy hitters in many of the biggest clubs. Representing SoCal's techno & house scene from the beginning, he has resided over many of San Diego's all-time best club nights including Club Hedonism and the original Montage. Supporting talent for this massive event include many of SD's favorites: DJ Ideal (www.djideal.com) Chad Fortin & Jason Tokita (www.injoypresents.com), , Dstro, DJ Adiva, Jon Doss, and our very own Jonathan Brae. Expect a hot & heavy dose of house, breaks, progressive, and techno all night long.
Not just stepping up with quality talent, we had to throw in the kitchen sink for THUMP! Visual pleasure will be stimulated by two of San Diego's best digital artists: VJ Shikaku (www.shikakufx.com) and Charley Ten (www.charleyten.com). If the visuals don't blow your mind we're also bringing intensely powerful lasers and lights by Instinct. For a little break from the dance floor, we'll have two of our favorite artists displaying their distinct styles: Sinclair Stratton (www.sinclairstratton) with contemporary art pieces, and Arek with urban stencil graffiti (you may have seen him doing his thing live at Earthdance). Oh and did we mention the sound system? The main warehouse room will be thumping you just right with NEXO sound by United Records.
