Alright guys, have another question that i really couldnt find using the search button.

What do you guys recommend as far as buying new from a local store vs. buying used online. Obviously buying used online is going to be cheaper, you just have to take the persons word that the product works fine.

Are non working CDJ's and mixers common? Should i be worried that i buy a mixer online only to have it not work when it gets here? Does anyone know if guitar center or sam-ash stores repair DJ equipment just incase something happens?

Sorry for all the questions, im just really undecided on what to do here, the difference between buying new and used for my initial setup is about $850 for used, $1200 for new.

Well, it depends where you gonna purchase. Some shops are more reliable than others. This thing only can be proven by using their services. There are failed products, but its just matter of time when you get one of those.

If you buy from local store, the procedures with warranty is more easy (dont have to send stuff back). What kinda plan you have ?

i believe he's talking more about advice on buying second hand equipment from people on ebay, etc. i'd give advice if i could, but never bought any used equipment

You could also check out local listings on Craigslist. I haven't done it myself, but you could inspect it in person as well as conduct the transaction locally as well.

I bought my CDJs from Craigslist over a year ago and it turned out all right, they are still working fine. Just mak sure you explain to the guy that you need to test them out and make sure everything is in order.

As far as Ebay goes I haven't bought any DJ equipment but I have purchased plenty of electronics. I would say stick with sellers who are dedicated and seem to sell the same type of equipment consistently (and have good ratings). Also these "power sellers" usually have some sort of return policy for defective items.

If it is someone who seems like a regular guy selling off his gear, check out his item description closely and see if he knows what hes talking about and its not just the copy and pasted specs for the item.

Also I would always shoot the guy an email if anything seems sketch or you have any questions about the condition. Its usually the best way to find out the specifics.

Scams do happen on Ebay, just don't be sucked in just because its supposedly an awesome deal

Im pretty much worried about buying something used off a person seller who claims the item is working fine, but when i receive it, its really not. Ive heard that DJ gear is pretty reliable for the most part i guess. Maybe i should just buy it new for peace of mind.

Buy new IMO.. peace of mind, warranty, longer lifecyle of the equipment.

If you MUST buy used, Don't buy anything you haven't touched and seen working before buying it. And it may sound weird but if you do take this road.. Try and push it a bit.. move cables etc and make sure everything is firmly in place.

An old mate of mine sold me a pair of Stanton CDJs.. crappy ones but it worked till i had the funds for new cdjs.. So i get them, And find out one of the decks dosen't start up.. Was so pissed off and my mate wouldn't do a refund for them.. So i decided to go in myself and play with some wires while it was on :/ ... Long story short.. Turns out it was just the deck 2 cable from headunit to Cdj was shorting out because it had been bashed around so much.. Fixed it up, Sold them on Ebay and made 100$ more than i paid in the first place.

Well im not very much into howstuffworks and ....stuff.. but if you buy it online and you check it out at the place where your buying it , i dont think theres gonna change much...or its broken or it alright..

I bought my Technics online and i checked it out at the place,it was working alright,had some scratches nothin more,and it kept on working once i was home.

I can only show you the door, you must enter it.(choose for yourself buddy )

You have to be informed ofcouse, i was looking up the Sl-1200mk2 all over the internet and friends and the word was that it was practicly "unbreakable" if it works, its gonna keep working. So you should see what exactly you are buying and what ppl think of it who already bought stuff like that

I never buy anything used, when you get something new you're 99% sure itll work and if it doesnt you have the peace of mind that you can take it back. Theres pretty much no local shops where I am so I had to get my DJing gear off the internet, I got them new however. My advice is go with new, and if you have any local stores then all the better so you can check them before you buy and take them away.

most mixers have user replacable crossfaders etcetera, but they do cost, quite a lot in some cases but your warranty usually pays for a bit of it within a given period.
