Noise

Hey guys, every phones/speaker I connect to my PC, have some noise, when nothing is being played. I can't hear it unless I put the volume very high, almost at max. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? and how can I solve it? thanks.

every cord generate an amount of noise caused by the cords resistance, the ratio beetwin the noise and the signal is reffered to as SNR (signal-noise-ratio), you can find variouse articles on it on the net...

and you might want to try and mute everything but your wave output (such as mic-in, aux and stuff like that...)...

I had a similar problem. Turns out that my wireless USB dongle was causing some sort of interference; or at least thats what I guessed, since whenever I moved the dongle away from my speakers and cables the noise would disappear. Couldn't hurt to try.

If the noise sounds like hiss or white noise then that's just the laws of physics for ya.

If not, can you elaborate?

Yep it's not white noise at all. It' some weird sound, that sounds like white noise plus some weird stuff that I've no idea how to explain but, lets say, everytime I click with my mouse on some window, everytime I maximize/minimize a window, it makes another noise then stops. -_-

I've done it already, still, when I rise up the vol almost to the max, I can hear the weird noisy sounds...

lol, I'll try it, but I doubt that's the problem.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I also had a similar problem. Was my onboard pci wireless card. It caused havoc with the sound card everytime it polled the network.

disable your other peripherals to remove them from the equation.

a touch of noise is okay for monitoring...

keep in mind that when you're using only software, when you render, that noise shouldn't be there

I have that thing too, its there constantly but it disappears for half a second or less every time i maximize or minimize a windows. Some very low static noise, doesnt bother me though.

i had it like that too but now that i sat the computer on the left side of my desk and the soundcard on right and not mixing the power+audio to the monitors with mouse and screen it disapeared. just separate everything or get better cables. i dont know where the problem but i solved it anyway.

1.) If you're powering your sound card with its own power supply, plug it in somewhere other than the plug/power strip your computer is plugged in to.

2.) If you have an external hard drive, also plug its power cord in to a different place.

3.) Anything that's connected to your computer or signal chain (mixer?), start unplugging/moving the plugs to different locations until the problem goes away.

I personally get the same thing you described when my external HD is plugged in to the same power strip. Plug items in on the other side of the room if you can and try it.
