Adam Von Volterock - A Tribute To Trance - [Almost all subgenres]

I made a tribute mix that has many trance classics in it but I did a lot of harmonic mixing to give older tracks a new sound so it will be interesting for the trance veterans. And, it's just long enough to fit on a CD. I've been giving this to people who didn't know what trance was. If you have some friends who are just getting started, this might be a good mix to start them off with. Let me know what you think of it. I hope you like it.

everything else is newer than 2005, or a remix newer than 2005 of something older (ie energy 52).

when you say classics man, we think pre 2000. hype is welcome, exaggerated hype is tolerable, inaccurate hype, is poor taste.

Look closer.

okay, i exaggerate the times, and i'm lazy to check every single track, but i wasn't the first to point it out, nor have you proven me wrong. maybe not every but a lot of those are newer tracks (within the last couple years). i guess what i'm saying is, define your definition of classics when you're talking about trance.

OMG ... Snap??? Thats like saying that DJ Sammy - Boys Of Summer is good trance music. PVD? You gotta be kidding me. By 1998, trance music changed already.

Both of your mentioned tunes are good though, fabulous mixes by Dance 2 Trance of Snap (made a bad tune sound good) but here is the definition of oldskool trance:

Virtual Symmetry - Discovered Theme (1993)

Dance 2 Trance - Dance 2 Trance / Deepest Vision / We Came In Peace (1991)

KLF - What Time Is Love? (Original Pure Trance Version) 1988

Spicelab - The Spicelab E.P. 1992

True Love - Breath Of Stars 1991

Cosmic Baby - Transcendental Overdrive 1992

Cosmic Baby - 23 E.P. (1992)

Blue Planet Corporation - Overbloody Flood 1993

Optic Eye - Trance 1992

Young American Primitive - Young American Primitive (1992-93)

Transformer 2 - Fruit Of Love (1992)

Cosmic Baby - Cosmikk Trigger 1992

Rising High Collective - Fever Called Love 1991

Perry & Rhodan - The Beat Just Goes Straight On & On 1993

Neutron 9000 - Tranceplant / Open Your Mind 1992

Beyond - Opus / Silver 1993

A Positive Life - Synaesthetic 1994

Other notable artists, from top of my head:

Microglobe
Influx
Komakino
Solar Quest
Third Eye
Friends, Lovers & Family
God's Groove
B-Zet
Amorph
Alien Signal
Cygnus X
Phi Phi
Paradise 3001

Those were all excellent tracks and crucial to their time but I did not see them as an adventageous choice for an introductory into trance especially for the lyrical hungry North American culture I live in. For this same reason, I only added one psytrance track. It was catered to them so to create an avidity for more. If the receiver enjoys this genre, I believe they will continue their search and possibly even discover the "classics" you mentioned. I hope that someday they do discover the beginnings of trance music but many people who are driven by pop music in this area are not ready for it at this point in time. This mix was not meant to deceive onlooking trance enthusiasts nor was it created to include only "classic" tracks. As a tribute mix, I wanted to focus more on exposing people to every subgenre of trance while still keeping their attention. I'm set back from your inability to consider the tracks I mentioned as "classics" but to each his own. You are giving an indefinite word like "classic" and "oldskool" a limited boundery which seems to be illogical. It is ridiculous to argue over what is and isn't a classic especially when you consider the ambiguity of musical taste for the individual. As time continues, more and more tracks are becoming classics and do some of these newer tracks lack the ability to become classics? When did I say these were all classic trance tracks or even a classic trance mix? I said there were many classics in it but not entirely. I'm sorry if it appeared that way. A lot of tracks were chosen not because they were some of the best trance ever made but because of their popularity in this part of the world to act as a lyrical hook which is why I kept them to a bare minimum and only dubbed small vocal segments. You may scoff at "DJ Sammy & Yanou feat. Do - Heaven" but I believe tracks like these are a gateway into trance especially because of the popularity they had in my area. I also believe trance is one of the doorways to EDM and I hope some will explore all the "genres." I hope you can understand how this mix was approached and its methodology.

I will not argue on the classic or not classic side. It can mean different tracks for me (33) and for a 16 yers old trance fan.

So to leave this argument, let's talk about the mix, which is clearly enjoyable. Some good tracks are in it with nice flow.
It was a background music on my mp3 player yesterday when I was shopping in town for hours. I liked most parts of it and didn't skip any parts which means a thumbs up from me.

The mix was pretty good, well done ;-) Not in my alley, but pretty good mix nevertheless.

Just the only issue of the "classics" ... its hard to define a "classic" with the music changing so fast. I got tired and have not kept up with new music since about 2005.

Thanks Magnetonium. I know what you mean. Everything changes so fast it's even difficult to identify the genre sometimes.

I sliced up the mix if anyone wants it cut:
