have the feeling in the "old" days track would build longer and in another way. Nowadays the entire track is built around a chord scheme, old days the path toward the main theme stood on itself (my feelings)

Its only coz progressive got really big over the last year and was basicly aimed at the +25 age range hence a change was needed fast, thats why i think trance has seemed to change so much recently. If ya can stay varied as a producer, i think ull survive. Just my opinion tho. PVD being the classic example of moving with the times n putting a current slant on his tunes and sets.

Tech-house and Progressive is becoming more popular, but that doesnt mean that trance is turing into it.. I actually hear little elements of tech/progressive in new trance. Recently real TRANCE tracks are tending to be more complex, with more instruments and sounds, with a "large" feel, lots of reverb on stuff and dominating synth lines. I havnt been to the record shop in awhile, so Im about 3 months behind in my vinyl.. but I'm dropping by tomorrow. I'll pic up the absolute newest trance tracks, and see exactly what their sounding like and I'll leave more feedback.

Look under the Progressive/Trance section, you'll hear a mixture of the new Trance and Progressive tracks, and you can pic out which ones are the trance.

I went downtown today to the record shop, spent 2 hrs listening to new tracks. I must say their is alot of good trance still being made. There are many tracks that stand far apart from progressive .. theirs just not as much selection as progressive/tech-house.

Checked out the Release Records site and also heard some new stuff elsewhere...sounds like trance went "housey-discoey" all of a sudden. Not cool IMO; where's the energy? I like change but this seems like a step backward. DJ NyQuilizer!

Someone once said "Adapt Or Die", and to a certain extent I agree, but when you have something RIGHT where you want it....

It seems like in the clubs everyone wants to hear progressive trance...Even if you listen to armin van burren a lot of his sets have more proggy sounding tunes...

See, there's progressive TRANCE and there's progressive HOUSE. When you see the word "progressive" just by itself, which one does it refer to? (Or is it a whole genre unto itself, as it appears?)

It has it's own genre .. in my oppinion. There's a difference between Progressive, Progressive House, and Progressive Trance.

Yeah, progressive trance/house is different to progressive!

What is changing production wise (harder trance):

Heavy use of appregiator like the late 90's coming back
Throbbing acid sounding bass lines are "in fashion"
Longer more repetitive build-ups
Heavy use of percussion to give "tribal" feel
