I'm surprised the crowd didn't fall asleep during that song... I thought he was supposed to be spinning trance not alternative rock ala coldplay style. Now granted for what it is I actually like it, but it needs to be remixed properly for events like that.

Paul plays his sets using ableton live.with this software he can cut the whole track (bassline,melody,kicks...).In his party Paul has left only the guitar and the vocals.they will be for sure a club version.

For some strange reason the words "Going wrong" popped into my mind.

PvD never in the last years said he spins trance, he calls it electronic dance music, and he is right. Trance is not anymore what it meaned to be at the beginning. Actually todays "trance" is much more similar to dance music then to trance if you listen carefully.

The only sad thing in this case is that people think every track Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Armin or Above & Beyond play is trance.

If you notice the progression of PVD from 2004 to to current, he's been collaborating with more and more vocalists, and the stuff has been getting more and more pop-ish (like you hear here). This isn't even a dance-genre type song, it's an anthem, yes. It is a little sad to hear that tune in a gatecrasher set, if you ask me. It's like plopping a rock tune down and letting it play out and see if people go nuts over it. I go to shows to hear high energy, electrifying dance music and watch a DJ show some grade-A mixing skills, be it do some badass stuff with Ableton Live (which Paul does) -- but not on stuff like this.

I am in the mood to share, maybe give you an idea of when Paul played sets that were nothing like this --sets that were constant, banging, high energy, rich, and epic.

Definitely check these out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIbUrJE2pYk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=od-0mBbV6Gw

those examples (above) are the grade of live music I've come to expect from PVD's livesets - knock your socks off electronic mania...not some male vocalist with backup guitar played off a CDR.

the technic is moving forward.paul was always looking for music with more...software like ableton gives him a completly new control of the dancefloor and a chance to make unique live mixes.

I'm pretty sure he DOES NOT use ableton, although he IS using software and synths
