I'm trying to realize what type of mixing he uses, what compressor can make that fat, warm and deep sound, how can this track be so good in quality.

How that kick sounds so amazing without distortion? ok, good compressor, but which? Maybe the UAD plugins?

I can say my target is to get something near it's quality, but i'm unable to see how I'm doing wrong. Please take a look on a sample of a track of mine:

I have something better today here, being produced, but I think it's not enough. Today I'm using:

Cubase SX3
URS Compressors (VST)
Waves IR1 for Reverb
Sidechaning with TC Native Compressor (VST)
Synths: Vanguard, Atmosphere, Arturia, Trilogy (all vst)
Reason
Battery2 with some nice samples
Already read some books and tutorials of mixing and mastering, like Bob Katz...

But something I still doing wrong.
What you think about my track on myspace? How can I do better?

Maybe I must to go hardware? UAD, Moog, P8?
It is possible to make good music only with software?

Great, here we go... when all else fails, blame the equipment.

Yes, you need hardware, more analog and sidechain.

Actually, I don't think your mixing is that bad, which is unusual for these types of threads. You're just using thin sounds. Pick up a few good kicks and layer some of your synths, and with a little EQ work you should be set.

Compression's got very little to do with it.

Deadmau5 uses alot of hardware in his tracks, it just sounds better.

But if you work alot more with softplugs you can probably get some similar sounds.

you definately need a lot of hardware to make really good music. digital synths just don't sound that good and any pro will agree with me.

if i were you, i would buy a moog voyager or little phatty, an analog compressor like a TL Ivory 5052 and an analog outboard mixer. alot of pros use SSL analog mixing consoles. its all pretty expensive, so it will take you a while to get all of this, but your music just won't be that polished until it is passed through some high quality equipment.

There is only one way to get that analog sound with software. I am going to share the secret with you.

You have all the gear you need, you just need to know where-when-how to use them. I didn't listen to your song yet, but the universal answer is always the same.

It's not the gear you have, it's how you use them. And that will take quite some time to master. Much like a painter will need quite some time to polish his skills in order to get that perfect painting.

All he needs is a brush and some paint, but it's useless if you don't know how to use it. (not suggesting that you don't know anything)

It's not the answer you wanted I suppose, but it's the grueling truth.
