Chicago trip civic long weekend

I am heading to Chicago for the long weekend coming up (Aug 1-4).

Has any of you ever been? Can you recommend places to see or go to?

DOODE! haha Lollapalooza is going on that weekend. Don't know if you like Rage against the Machine, Radio head and NIN.

Big line up!

I would definately go up the Sears Tower or the Hancock tower to get a sense of how big and awesome Chicago is. I think the Hancock has a bit better view than the Sears. They also have an amazing waterfront so if the weather is nice and you have time during the day hit up the beach. Taking a cruise down the magnificent mile is a must as well. They also have this cool little area with tons of bars and restaurants all close to one another (kind of like a Yorkville I guess)...I can't remember the name of the street right now but I'll find out for you. Cubs games at Wrigley are also pretty awesome if you're a baseball fan. As for going out at night...Soundbar, Smartbar, Vision, and Crobar are pretty much your main places. The nightlife in Chicago isn't nearly as good as you would think for a city that size.

All great advice. Add going to Millenium Park...which is just down from Grant Park where Lollapaloza is being held. Night life isn't great in terms of afterhours. If you are doing the sightseeing thing get a Chicago pass which will save you a lot of money instead of paying for each venue. Shed Aquarium is very cool as well. The Art Institute of Chicago is also good if you enjoy that kind of stuff.

Looks like Moby and Kaskade is there when you will be there. This site is usually pretty good for information.

If you've never eaten at a Cheesecake Factory restaurant, there's one at the bottom of the Hancock Tower. Even if there's a wait, its worth it. http://www.cheesecakefactory.com/menu.htm

If you're not into architecture, don't even bother reading my entire post, lol.

If you are into architecture Chicago is a fucking goldmine. There is the most concentrated amount of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in Chicago than in any other city. They have an amazing architectural tour that takes you to Oak Park which is a subdivision outside of the city that has basically an entire street of his houses. The Fansworth house is also outside of Chicago. There is another another architectural boat tour which takes you all around the waterways and its very good.
