I will post something in the California forum for specific info, but I'm wondering if any TOTAs have been there so they can compare it to places like Guv, TIL, Footwork, etc. Looks like a decent venue from the pics, has solid bookings, etc.
I may be going down to San Fran for a week in Sept (20th-28th is being tossed around). Steve Porter (20th), Cosmic Gate (27th) and Deadmau5 (28th) are all options, with Porter being the likely choice. Love Fest the following week looks decent, but I've heard most of those DJs before and the point of the trip is to see the city. Squeezing in a party is a bonus
I almost went for 2 events while John and I were there last month. I asked many of the same questions as you did and learned that it's the guv of san fran.

Ruby Skye is comparable to the guverment in size, but i believe they have a way better sound system there! Awesome bookings as well..

Guv is way bigger and has more rooms. Ruby's sound is great when it is tuned right.

I went to RubySky when I was in San Fran a couple years ago for work and saw DJ Dan and Christopher Lawrence.
It's basically on old theatre converted into a night club. It's still kinda of got an old meets new look to the place. Pretty unique!
There's an upper deck that overlooks the main floor.
Really beautiful place, great sound, nice vibe and good crowd.
One of my fav clubs I've ever been to. You should definitely check it out!
lovefest looks pretty good, how come no such good events near toronto. Wemf candy raves dont count. toronto should be a bigger hub

It's a nice place to check out, it's definitely not the 'Guv'. It's an old musical theatre. Sound is great, I found it kind of boring, lacked character and the crowd is more of a tourist crowd then a regulars crowd. It's a very nice place, but that's about it. Could be the venue or the night I went (for Chus & Ceballos).
I wouldn't bend over backwards to go back, but I did enjoy it.

Ruby skye is a great club but it is no way similar to the guvernment. For one its about a third the size of the guv and the vibe is not your standard dance club scene (mostly well dressed crowd and minimum sketch factor). The smoking lounge on the second floor is kinda cool and the pool tables make the smoking area seem more like a bar.
I dont recall ever having a bad night at ruby skye. Its one of the few clubs in san fran that is open till 4 am and the decor has a nice medieval feel to it given that it was a theater back in the day. Oh ya - I love those strobes that lower from the ceiling to the dance floor.
Plus they accept credit cards for cover.

Thanks very much for the feedback everyone. Good sound, less sketch = fine with me.
Are clubs not typically open late? What's last call there?
I google mapped Ruby Skye and it seems to be only 3-4 blocks away from where we're staying too...so that works out well
Steve Porter on the 20th and, if we enjoy the place, perhaps Cosmic Gate or Deadmau5 the following weekend before we leave. Maybe Joel can hookup a fellow TOTA with guestlist, lol.
