Making refills

My friend just finished a diploma in music technology and his tutor thinks that making re-fills can be like a part time job. Seems like fun to me does anyone do this already?

Processing a highly structured and complex pattern of sensory input as a unified percept of "music" is probably one of the most elaborate features of the human brain.....understanding how music is perceived and how it may elicit intense sensations is far from being understood.

do sample packs...really making a refill limits the number of your customers...not everyone has a chance to use a refill (not have reason, for example) and thus if you create a sample pack in wav/aiff you'll have a chance to have so much more customers or eventually users who will download it for free...just my 2p

If they're high quality/professional and very user friendly (sorted in a logical, clear manner, loop points assigned if applicable, no huge volume differences between sounds) then you'll find a market for it. There are excellent free refills/ sample packs around, but the commercial products are generally a decent step up, with nowhere near as much filler material just to make the refill/pack look big. The commercial refills/packs are generally big, but they're a consistently high quality throughout. They also tend to be more targeted towards a particular sound/style/concept, rather than being a big grab bag of various sounds.
