disconnect the negative first, then the positive. when you reconnect do it the opposite way. If its corroded clean the terminals with baking soda and water.

That is, the negative line comes off first, and goes on first.

Also, clean the terminals and leads of corrosion and apply a generous coating of vaseline to the connections to prevent further corrosion.

If you aren't sure how to remove the battery, are you sure you want to be opening up the cell?

it wont do anything. it only has 14 volts of potential. not nearly enough to draw a current through your body.


also when you remove the battery, dont put it on bare concrete/asphalt/ground. put it on some pieces of 2x4 or rubber. there is a ground plate at the bottom of the batter, and im not entirely sure how it works (an electrical engineer once explained it to me) but the battery will short itself out if you put it directly on the ground. It will actually kill your battery within an hour.
