The kids dont want techno

my brothers friend is having a house party and he needs a back up dj cause the one he had dissapeared.

i dont have any "good" songs.

the closest top 40 song i have is a salt n pepper remix of push it.

should i spin anyway? have you ever spun at a party that was supposed to be top 40? how did it go?

My first time out was just a terrible night, wrong promo it said it would be normal Top 40 club night loooooool

and loooooong before that the owner was told that I play only Electronica hahaha...

you can't imagine the faces of those all hard-ass hiphoperz looking at me like " Uuuuh what's going on? " funny shit, when I remember it, what was not funny was playing for empty dancefloor...so depends...if you can handle playing for an empty dancefloor go for it, even that can be a great experience, it's solely about your psychological abilites of coping with that stress.

Normally I would say "don't do this" for a club event. If you don't like what you are playing, you'll be miserable. If you play what you like in the wrong venue, the patrons will be miserable (and the promoter and owner will hate you when people leave).

But it's your brothers friend... and a house party, which are usually low-key. Just go and get a bunch of the top 40 crap listed on iTunes and work in some fun house remixes here and there.

You CAN pull this off and still provide quality, no need to cheese it up too much.

Grab some of the tracks off amazon.com (higher quality but same price as iTunes), and just play what they like. Unfortunately, house parties are a bit different than clubs. A house party focuses on the booze, where as at a club, one tends to focus on dancing (well... and booze). You'll keep people dancing as long as you play songs that the girls know the words to. But if you do well you'll get asked to do more, and hopefully eventually be able to mix in some of the stuff that you like.

Shit DJs play what the crowd has no interest in. If that's the case then why bother.
