Smiley DJ Beginner Setup.

Hey guys, I am planning on getting my first Dj-ing set. Tell me what you think of these and what i can add to them keeping in mind that i am just a beginner. Also, am i getting ripped off?

Numark TT-1650 - turntables x2 ($156.99 each)
Numark DM-3002X - Mixer x1 ($190.98)
Sony MDR-CD2000 - Headphones x1 ($192.99)

I am gonna hook this up to my stereo system by the way, so i dont really need a good speaker system and amp.

Is there anything more i need to start spinning? (other than the vinyls)

Cheers,

so yes mixer = very good to start with

wow.. thats alot to spend on a pair of headphones when you should be saving up for better turntables!

I agree with quddha, that's quite a bit to spend on some headphones, considering they are more than the turntables. I'm still a beginner as well, but I do know that you should NOT skimp when it comes to the turntables. I got myself the standard MK2's and they are indestructible. Why do I say this? That's cuz I dropped BOTH of them on accident 4 feet from the ground and they landed face down. I picked them back up and NOTHING was wrong with them. I don't suggest you try that all the time though...

Anyhow, regarding the mixer, my buddy has a Numark DM-1002x and I think it's a pretty good mixer considering he only paid $150 for it. This sounds like a newer model, so I'd say it isn't a bad investment. He's has his for 2 years now and the only thing going out on it now is the crossfader.

I got my setup hooked to my home stereo as well with some cheap ass 50 dollar speakers I bought off ebay and I have no problems whatsoever.

Your choice though man, I wouldn't spend that much on headphones if they cost more than the TT's. I'm using some 60 dollar Sony headphones a friend let me borrow that work just fine for now, until I get enough cash to get some other ones. There was a sticky somewhere on this forum that recommended headphones, so I'd check that out if you're looking for more info on headphones.

Sorry this post is so long, but I hope it helps a little. I'm still new at this as well, so don't take my word as the final word - ask around to get a better picture of what you want to do.

peace out

acidt

My uncle has numark TT's and I hate them, like their pitch seems so sloppy and unresponsive. I would look into stanton or gemini, which you can find around the same price area, they seem alot better than the numarks to me.

Man, what kind of a headphone is that? It's more expensive than a turntable!

you don't need those headphones, they are way too much money.

I have some Optimus NOVA 403s and they work great. i got them for $50 canadian at radio shack. headphones are the least important part of your setup.

but, you DO need good turntables. get technics 1200s, don't settle for anything less. you will just need to upgrade them eventually anyway.

oh yeah, and headshells are the things that your cartridges attach too. the cartridges (carts) in turn hold the stylus(needle).

you can also get all in one designs, that are headshell, cartridge, and stylus all together.

technics come with headshells, but not cartridges.
