If you don't want to dish out the big bucks for the Vestax, i'd recommend the Numark 3002x. The cross fader is a little loose on it, but it does have LED indicators for all channels, which is a big plus in my book. I got this for 180 shipped. I think the Vestax will run you about 350-400 shipped. So it's all up to you how much you want to spend.

always check the faders, they have to be long and heavy, if you want to mix trance, techno or music like that. check how many buttons there are on a mixer, and decide if you gonna use them or not (like bass punch or things like that).
ask yourself what do you want that's on a mixer, how many channels, equalizer etc. Just buy a known mixer, like a numark, gemini or vestax or whatever. if your mixer goes stuck, it will be easier repaired because they can get parts faster.
and just ask someone, who knows a lot about mixers (not the salesman), to come with you when you buy your mixer
