Just back from Vegas
Wow. Although I spend the Summers in NYC I'm a Vegas native... and recently I've been less than thrilled with the Vegas music scene. I'm happy to report, however, that this Labor Day weekend more than redeemed my faith in the city.
Got in Friday night just in time to catch some of Roger Sanchez at Tabu. Solid as usual (although I miss the size of Empire for afterhours).
The next day at Wet Republic was insane. Crystal Method was so much better than the last few times I've seen them and the DJ that followed (so upset I can't remember his name) them WAS. OUTSTANDING. Had the place going nuts. Long nap and then...
Off to Rain @ the Palms to see Paul Oakenfold. First let me say two things: 1)Rain for the most part has NEVER impressed me and; 2)The last time I saw Oakenfold he really, well, sucked. That being said, the show was one of the best I've ever seen. They totally rearranged the place to look somewhat like the main stage at Ultra, and Oakenfold came through, big time. After a few hours everyone I was with just stood there with their mouths open. Unreal time. Way to start a residency.
Sharam at Wet Republic. Again, really solid performance, and what can I say, that venue, IMO, has definitely usurped Rehab for the daylife crown.
Last night we had a choice to make: PVD @ Studio 54, or Morillo @ TAO. Tough decision seeing as how Studio 54 ranks about one rung higher than Chuck E. Cheese's in my book, and the pretense involved with anything TAO disgusts me. Judging from Morillo's performance we made the right decision. He absolutely blew that place up. We were exhausted and left at about 7:30 and he was still going strong. Again, people I was with (serious Trance/house addicts) were just looking at each other, mouths agape, shaking their heads. Awesome way to cap the weekend.
I haven't been so impressed since the '04 Music Conference. My only regret is that I had to get back to NY tonight and therefore missed Deadmau5 at Wet Republic. I've yet to see him live and that was seriously disappointing. Oh well, I think I'm gonna catch him back in Vegas on Halloween.
