Yeah, nothing much there to learn from that particular video but its always interesting to see how a big producer like SVD goes about putting a track together and what he uses. The following parts when he gets into synthesis could be really interesting as I can never work out how he achieves a lot of the sounds and FX I hear in his tunes (which are usually excellent)

can you fill up all the midi notes with samples from a pack easily in ableton? or do you need a vst for it?

one of the things i need to reduct is the amount of time it takes me to cycle through samples in ableton.

Yes! Somebody please answer this question! Is it simply a matter of using a sampler and, if so, which one(s) do you guys recommend? If not, what must be done to get a similar setup to Logic's sampler?

I think it can be done if you have Sampler but not entirely sure. I too am interested to know this

Maybe you can try to use standard samples you already used (like kick, hats etc). In cubase I have a preset channel (compr, EQ etc.) to use on a specific kick. If you already know that that's the kick you probably gonna use, setting up preset channels saves you a lot of work.
But, I don't know how this is done in Ableton.

Btw. NI Battery is pretty handy for this work. You can just drag-and-drop sounds on your 'midi-keyboard', and even setup standard drumkits. This even saves more time!

so with battery, you can open a folder of samples, select them all, and drag & drop them onto some midi device which distributes them across all notes of the keyboard?

You can drag-and-drop them on, what they call, "Cells". And each 'cell' can be triggered by a key of your midi device.

Battery looks like this:


In the upper screen, you can see all the cells, and in the lower screen, are controls to i.e. assign midi, outputs, effects etc.

You can also use Kontakt to set samples across you midi-device. But it takes a little more effort than with Battery!

Not much to the interview, still good to see how he does things though. Have to admit, I love his percussion

i see. So you have to drag and drop each sample individually? What is sander using in logic that lets him basically open a folder of samples through his midi device?
