Ableton Live with Xone 92 + Xone 1D

I'm considering adding a Xone 1D to my setup, which currently includes a Xone 92 and an Audio 8 DJ. I have Ableton Live (although I'm very new to it) and was wondering what benefits adding the Xone 1D would have? Can someone point me to some resources on using the 1D with Ableton?

From what I understand the 1D would essentially allow me to assign common tasks in Live to physical buttons/faders on the 1D. Is that correct?

What kinds of things do you all use the 1D for? I think I'm just too new to Live to know what types of things to assign to the 1D but I'm very intrigued to learn what sorts of things this could help me out with.

Thanks.

That would be a very nice setup. Personally I'd route 4 channels from the audio 8 into the xone 92, and use that to mix.

The you'll use the xone 1d to navigate the scenes, trigger clips, and manipulate effects.

Are there any templates or resources out there that would explain more about this Ryan? I'm just curious what types of things you could do within Live that can be assigned to the controller... Like I said, I don't know Live well enough yet but I'm sure there are some pretty cool things to do.

No offense intended at all Keith, but I'd seriously consider learning to use all the equipment I already had before investing in something else.

Fair enough Rob and none taken. I'm just thinking introducing a 1D could help me more easily learn the features of Live by having the ability to use those features via a physical dial rather than via mouse clicks, etc.

Definitely agree, I just know you have a lot of really nice toys already that I think you'd do well to get on lock down before incorporating Ableton.

If you managed to get a perfect handle on Serato and your Xone, you might as well 86 the EFX unit, get a Soundbyte Micro (or just slave Ableton to Serato - or vice versa), and try to go the Richie Hawtin route (not musically, just technically):

This video is the definition of why I get inspired as a DJ.

Love your ambition though, Keith. Good luck.

more about Tracktor than the 1D, but he is using 2 of them in conjunction with a 92 and have them mapped out well.

yeah guys i've seen that video a couple times now, thanks. only problem is i don't have two computers and don't really understand how that works anyway.

also, to have two 1ds that would require two usb ports, yes? i have a macbook pro 15" which only has two usb ports. what would i do for my audio 8 dj and serato scratch live?

i guess i'm asking what does t3 do that i cannot already do with ableton and/or serato?

You definitely do not need two computers to get something similar to that setup - Hawtin just does it because he would literally be crashing any single computer with the amount of processes he has running at once.

And the best answer is just that T3 is a much, much more fully featured program than SSL now - it's hard to summarize it all into an easy to digest packet, but in general it's just the ease of use, future support from NI, and the support for up to 4 decks or loops.

I don't know - I would have bought SSL a year ago, but after using them both, I really do think T3 is just easier and more fun to use than Serato.
