Canadian House 1989-1994, Vol. 1

I decided to start recording mixes, yay. Only had my equipment for 3 months, but I am getting the hang of it. I will concentrate on rare and exquisite music styles - rarities, oldskool sounds and rare genres of electronic music. I have plans for italo-disco, disco, oldskool eurodance, early trance & ambient-trance, spacesynth and other mixes.

This one is Volume 1 of the very special genre of music to me. Early 1990s Canadian house sound, which has been immortalized since. Deep, vocal, progressive and funky ... bit of everything. Some of these tracks werent made in Canada, but they were ALL big underground dancefloor hits in Toronto and elsewhere.

This mix was made ONLY using vinyls and original CDs - NO MP3 was used. Equipment: SL 1200MK2, DJM-800, Serato Scratch, CDJ-1000 .... Anyways, enjoy the mix and please comment on skills, flow, tracklisting and most importantly, if you want a cue sheet and what you liked - and if you want something like this from me again.

Cheers. All feedback is thoroughly read and appreciated!

Tracklisting:

1. Marcus Turcotte - Ambiessence (1994)
2. Nick Holder - Infinisynth (1993)
3. Nick Holder - Soundwaves (1992)
4. Nick Holder - Hustle Baby (1993)
5. The Stickmen - Summer of 87 (1993)
6. BKS - Living In Ecstasy (House Mix) 1992
7. Dee Landez - Stand Up, Be Strong (1993)
8. DJ's Rule - Get Into The Music (Ambient Club Mix) 1990
9. Lil' Louis - I'm Hot For You (Stickmen Remix) 1992
10. Fellows - Let It Ride (1992)
11. Rico Danubio - Danube (1992)
12. Christina Lorr - Pure Energy (Atomic Mona Mix) 1992
13. Effervescence - Keep It Open (Jungle Club Mix) 1993
14. S.O.S. Foundation - Dream (1993)
15. Too Taboo - About Time (1993)
16. Troy Brown - Yo (1992)

Oooops, I didnt name my CDJ-1000 with the list of equipment used, did I? Heheh

What I am saying is that I was using vinyl and original CDs (not burned ones, but the ones you buy in a store, authentic ones) to make the mix. To preserve as much of the sound quality as possible. I do have Serato, but I didnt use it.

EDIT: And besides, Serato is shit, and I just bought Native Instruments Scratch to replace that decadent piece of thing.

Really just awesome stuff here, Magnetorium. It's kind of odd, because when you noted that there was kind of a diverse balance between progressive, vocal, and funky stuff, I really thought "Meh - how diverse can Canadian house from the early 90's be?"

I was pleasantly surprised to hear music that sounds as relevant, if not far more relevant, than most of what comes out today. It's been nice over the years to see folks like you, montana, karim, and SYSTEM-J who are literally encyclopedias for dance music put together these kinds of tribute mixes, because they just get a personality that they don't usually have.

All in all nice stuff. A few hiccups on the mixing here and there, but absolutely nothing that took me out of the mix much. Look forward to the other mixes you've got planned.

Oh lawdy, you've really done it now. This is the stuff. So languid. God.

You've always had exceptional taste. I know you have all those rare Detroit gems, too. Don't hold back on me.

Just amazing selection. You've given this forum a facelift.

*repeat

What the fuck is your problem?

Do you really feel the need to just follow me around, ruining other people's threads just for your own enjoyment?

Fucks sake, Radagast - get a life.

Also, more on topic in the thread - I'm shocked by how much the Holder tunes sound like modern tech house, lots of it. Reminds me a ton of a few of the things Hawtin played at DEMF this year.

If anything, the first twenty minutes of this mix makes me feel even more like all new music is just a ripoff of old stuff.
