Ti Desktop vs. Polar (Need answer fast!)

A few weeks ago I ordered a Ti Polar. Just now I received the fucking desktop. Some people tell me the desktop is the exact same, just without keys. I'm thinking now that I could always just buy a MIDI keyboard separate to control the desktop. What are your opinions on this? Is the Polar really that much better? And do both the Desktop and Polar have the same presets?

Thanks in advance!

Apart from the keys and the look, they are identical in every single way. I assume they have charged you for a desktop though and not a polar?

I would go for desktop when it comes to Virus, since having a keyboard version offers no advantage in terms of the interface.

True, I think I'll stick with this.

As a Ti desktop owner, I strongly recommend it. The keys and wheels are one less thing that can break it's also quite a bit cheaper. For the difference in cash you could get a novation remote SL 25 which is the best midi controller/keyboard on the market ATM. Or a 61 key m-audio axiom with the best semi weighted keys. It's a killer combo
However, I would recommend placing the ti desktop very close to the keyboard for practical reasons when tweaking the sound. Other than that and the pulsating access logo that only the polar has, they're identical.

Just for the sake of clarity, there are a few more differences between the Polar and desktop version:

- the Polar has metal sides, as opposed to the desktop's wood sides, which also means the the Polar weighs considerably more

- the Polar has mod and pitch bend wheels

- the Polar has a very cool illuminated/flashing blue Access logo on the backside (see my avatar)

- the Polar looks 20-40% better and will therefore get 20-40% more girls in your studio

But, yeah, aside from those, they're identical.

I recently upgraded from the Desktop to the Polar, pretty much just because of the Atomizer. I have the Polar on my keyboard stand, so it's convenient for me to just walk over there and start Atomizing. Yeah, I can just use my MIDI keyboard, but then I can't change any of the distortion parameters (unless it was right in front of me). If you aren't planning on taking it out to any gigs, or are a keyboard synth nerd, then the Desktop should do you just fine. I would call the store you bought it from because there is a huge price difference and you want to make sure you were charged for what you received.

0 + (0 * 20%) = 0
0 + (0 * 40%) = 0

I doubt it

With a good midi keyboard controller you can have all the control a polar gives you.. and more. I've got a novation remote sl 25 connected to the ti desktop and it's set up to control it. I can program 90% of the synth without even touching the Ti, not to mention playing it live. Even have a X-Y pad, a joystick and all the parameters displayed on the novation LCD's.
Plus, I use the keyboard as a next gen VST controller in the studio.
The Polar is a sexy bit of kit, no denying it, but IMO it has no real practical benefits over a ti desktop + midi controller combo. And ofc, the desktop version is quite a bit cheaper..
