Review: Minitek Festival - read more than the first post
So I fly in from Toronto for Minitek this morning. Spend the day wandering the city and then head to the hotel to rest up for the Friday night venue. Wake up at 2AM, shower and walk down to Penn Pavilion only to see what appears to be a big line up. As I get closer I see its only people hanging around smoking so I walk up to the door (this is around 2:40AM) and am told by a cop "partys over, we're shutting it down...go home and go to coney island tomorrow...ask them for your money back then".
WTF
I hung around for about an hour and nothing changed. It just looked like they were waiting for more cops to show up to turn the lights on and clear the venue. One other cop told this other girl they were at double capacity within a couple hours so thats why they are being shut down.
I'm not pissed off...frustrated...shaking my head wondering how they could let this happen. For a party that was suppose to embrace technology, innovation...maybe they should have embraced mathematics.
When you're doing pre sale tickets there is no reason you should be at over capacity. You know the venues legal capacity, so you only sell that many tickets...selling more shows a total lack or respect for your clients. Waiting to see what the organizers say...
See everyone at Coney Island... I hope

Whoa, that is messed up Jay. So reminiscent of the early 90's, driving to NYC, and dealing with the same thing at raves. Just be glad they're sending you to Coney Island and not Brooklyn (which at that time was date rape land, and had Nazi skinheads on crack at raves throwing bricks at moving cars, I'm not even joking....still traumatized....).

Someone in the NYTA just posted they moved the party to a club called Rebel. I'm debating on if I should go or just wait for the day party at Coney Island.

Sorry to hear that Jay. Hope your weekend gets better!
So off I went to see if the party had in fact been moved to Rebel. Left the hotel around 4:45AM and to be honest it was a bit weird being sober and walking around NYC by yourself at that time.
As I started the walk there is a bunch of construction going on near my hotel and its basically a path you have to walk thru with a plywood fence on one side and a bunch of construction trailers on the other side...not much space to move. As I was walking I hear some noise up ahead, honestly my heart started beating faster and I tensed up, but there was really no where I could go. So I kept walking and keep hearing the noise...then BAM...I realize i'm hearing sex. I see this big black guy on his knees on plowing this big black women (she was lying on one of the steps of the trailer)...I guess they hear me and suddenly it becomes quite. I keep walking...literally about a foot away from them when I pass them. When I get to be about 5 feet away they start going at it again. Finally I have a New York story to tell people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway...
I find the club, the party has in fact been moved. After waiting in line for about 10 minutes I get in (no problems..they just looked at your printed receipt). The place was going off. Great vibe, great crowd, and I liked the venue (not bad for a last minute change). Marco came on at 5:30 and Paco and him played until around 8:30 (swithing it up every 2 or 3 songs). Loved Marco, and Paco had his moments. Randomly ran into some people I know from Toronto which was cool. It was good times (even though I was completly sober).
Think I'm going to head to Coney Island earlier that I was planning on today.
I have to say good on the Minitek for finding another venue, and based on the size of the crowd it had to be shut down for other reasons. As I said in the post I wasn't mad (missing a party isn't worth it) I was more frustrated with the lack of information.
