Right now I am mixing with CDJ800mk2s and a DJM 600. I am planning on buyin a laptop so I can record my sets live and possible add some additional mixing programs to it. What specs should I look for on this laptop? What do you guys recommend?

There are a lot of mixing programs out there. As for recording sets, you don't need a computer to do this. You can always buy an external device for much cheaper. As for the computers specs, you could probably get away with buying a new $500 computer, and it would work great.

macbook or macbook pro, if what you're doing with the laptop is important to you…

Go with the Mac. The damn thing is allmost purpose built to handle any music program you can throw at it.

I only have a Dell because of a thing through work that offers extreme discounts on their computers.

well... realistically, dont cheap out, but you don't need to balls out either.

just look at program specs (minimum and recommended) of programs you think you might use, and then get something with specs a little higher than that. (if you want something reasonably priced now)

if you want to have a lappy that can stick around longer, get a beefier one.

also, keep in mind you'll want a small laptop. i got mine for college/music/everything... and i decided to get a gigantic 17" widescreen. it functions amazingly as a desktop replacement, but bringing it anywhere is a major bitch.

macs are good for music, but if you get a decently spec'd windows machine you shouldnt have problems either.

i just got the black mac

I use a Macbook. The only thing I think is special about it compared to my Dell is that is was the cheapest 13" laptop I could find.

I use a macbookpro for Serato. It's not dedicated to just that purpose though. I use it for school work, video editing, etc. Any of the big name programs will work on almost any laptop (mac or pc) these days. As long as you get a laptop with a core 2 duo and 1-2 gigs of ram you should be good to go. There are exceptions obviously, like doing a completely live, effects heavy, performance with Ableton. But for the most part, running Traktor, Serato, Ableton, shouldn't be too hard for any new laptop you can get now.
